Dear Friends,

I have seen a new lens from Voigtlander. It's 21 mm f:4 Pancake M mount. It's like old Super Angulon 21 mm f:4 but slightly small...

Has anyone tried this lens ?

I have Elmarit M Pre-Asph but bad condition and want to buy a new 21 but Leica is more expensive so I need your comments.

Hi Steve,Thanks for the info.

I have seen this lens on the cosina.jp web site and advantage is directly M mount (Without any adapter ring) and comfortable metering knob and diaphram ring.

I think the optical formula exactly same by the previous CV 21 Color skopar f:4 and Super Angulon M f:4.

But I have some question marks about the vignette.Because there was a strong vignette on the Super Angulon M at f:4 and CV 21 Color skopar f:4.

Yes, that seems to be a weak point of all CV lenses I have tried so far (15mm, 21mm and 25mm), they do indeed produce noticeable vignetting even when stopped down to, say, f8 (I use these lenses mainly with color slide film, where vignetting is more easily visible than with prints).

To counteract the vignetting of the CV lenses, I tend to expose my shots taken with these lenses 1/2 f-stop more than I would do with my Leica lenses (that is, if I would use f8 with the Leica lens, I use f5.6-8 with the CV lens). The results thus achieved are very acceptable to me.

Otherwise the CV lenses provide excellent value for money, and they are so compact.

Cheers,

Andy

Did you compare by the Leica 21 mm Elmarit -M ASPH ?

No, I do not own a Leica 21mm lens (I use this focal length not often enough to warrant buying a Leica 21mm asph.), but my general experience with other Leica lenses (I do own the 24mm asph. for example) tells me that Leica lenses vignette considerably less than their CV counterparts.

The M39 and the new M bayonet versions appear to be identical if you just look at the construction diagrams but Cosina should have upgraded the coating at least ... how much a difference there will be still remains to be seen and don't forget, folks ... there's the ZM 4.5/21 coming pretty soon and this one certainly looks very good on paper.

CV 21 M39 and M types are same optical construction. But I don't know the lens coatings etc...With B&W film CV is very sharp and contrastly, shadow detail is not very good but can be accept.I do not know on slides or color negatives.

Leica lenses are certainly good...But, I know the ZM Zeiss-Ikon Lenses and Cosina makes these lenses too...Results of the ZM lenses same by Leica and sometimes more than good quality...

The price of the CV 21 M is approx. 450 .-$ Leica is 3.192.-€

Once ,buy the CV is the best way I think....After some tests I will to make desicion to buy for Leica 21 mm.

Anounced for quite some time Zeiss only lately put the performance pdf online - looking good. You can not order it right now, but probably soon.
