skinnfell Posted April 11, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 11, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Panoramas are different, fun and challenging. And with a Leica rangefinder: easy peasy and great quality. May I tempt you to read my latest article for Leica Norway? In english for your viewing pleasure. All shots are mine and shot with Monochrom. Hey, mister, can you spare some pixels? By Bent Are Iversen | Leica PS. The post was written with the Monochrom in mind, and (and example pictures) but any Leica can do this trick, IMO. Hope you like it! Welcome, dear visitor! Numbers Posted April 11, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 11, 2014 Great idea and nicely written. Great idea about taping the rangefinder to a panoramic format. simple but clever. could be done if one wanted a square format also. I have to try it. an other reason why the rangefinder is brilliant. DigitalHeMan Posted April 11, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 11, 2014 Interesting article, but I'm not sure I would consider those sort of images as panoramas - they are merely images cropped in a way that they accentuate a narrower cross section of the image. In my mind a panorama should give more image real estate than an individual lens can provide. Still, an interesting idea to mask off the viewfinder.... pico Posted April 12, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 12, 2014 Interesting article, but I'm not sure I would consider those sort of images as panoramas - they are merely images cropped in a way that they accentuate a narrower cross section of the image. How do we explain such cameras as 6x17cm? Not a panoramic? Panoramas are generally considered a ratio of about of 3:1. The first image can be considered as three sections of about 24mm x 24mm. So what if it is on 35mm film?
skinnfell Posted April 12, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted April 12, 2014 "they are merely images cropped in a way that they accentuate a narrower cross section of the image" Isnt that exactly what a panorama is? I used the Hasselblad Xpan and Linhof Tecnorama as an example. These cameras use exactly the same technique as described in the article: by using just a center strip of the image circle. Both cameras have an aspect ratio of roughly 2.88:1 so if those cameras are not panoramic enough, then I guess my article is flawed.
