leica1215 Posted April 2, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have total cleaned sensor, when use dust detection detects nothing other than plain screen, but few hours later 2 small dust showed up when I use the dust detection function again. i am not even take one picture during these few hours. how clean you keep your sensor? total dustless? thighslapper Posted April 2, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 2, 2014 You will go mad if you get too obsessed with this ...... all sensors will have some dust some of the time..... even after rigorous cleaning The only issue is whether it's enough of a problem to appear on images and be noticeable. Unless you habitually take pictures with lots of sky in and at very small apertures you are not even going to notice multiple moderately sized specks. Yes, and also you can clean up images in LR based on the first image. 1215-dust comes from opening up your camera or even just putting a lens on it. Lighten up-use it-enjoy using it. Maybe your environment is very dusty. 1215 once you ask every gear question possible, perhaps you will start using your nice camera to take better and better images.That is why we own such a camera. Keep in mind as said before, try using the "Search" area above (between "New Posts" and "Quick Links") to see what has been said before on your query before asking it here. I don't stress on dust: if its visible on the photograph I'll clean the sensor, otherwise I don't go looking for it: until now. I recently took some photographs on a film Leica of a horse being exercised in a paddock. The horse was kicking up a lot of dust but I wanted to use the 50mm that was on the M240 so I changed lenses. As a precaution I checked the sensor for dust today and sure enough I found about six dust spots using sensor detection. I used an arctic butterfly brush and a Visible Dust blower and the six spots went from six to around sixty! Various attempts were made to clean the sensor but the dust spots went from few to many. Eventually I took a dust detection photo and then another - without cleaning the sensor. The number of dust spots varied from a few to many. leica1215 Posted May 25, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted May 25, 2014 well, in my limited experience the dust detection is quite reliable, is it possible that you have few dust flying around when you click on the shutter open and close which cause the spots varies. I wouldn't normally change lenses in such conditions but the photo was just too good to miss. Hope I got it (film, remember). I've ordered some Visible Dust swabs: I haven't had to clean the sensor in six months of use so it is a lot better than the M9. I'd still like sensor shake though. Thanks, Mike.. It is almost impossible to get the sensor 100% clean when used at f22 .... and even if you do there will be dust the next time you check....... Think about the smallest aperture you habitually use ....... for me I rarely go beyond f11...... so I clean with detection on f16 and then re-check on f11 ...... if it's clear of specks on dust detection at that setting then my photos will be as well......
