But what if the recent acquisition of Sinar AG has provided some in-house know how on sensors?

While Leica doesn’t do sensor design as such, they are quite capable of coming up with ideas of their own and they are working with partners such as Truesense (formerly Kodak) or Cmosis to realise their ideas. (Which should not be taken to imply that Leica’s next camera will have a Truesense or Cmosis sensor.)

If Leica had any deficiency in the past it was in the electronics field, but that has changed years ago. The S2 and S were developed in-house, as was the M. Only the electronics of the M Monochrom and M-E that are part of the M9 legacy still depend on the cooperation with Jenoptik. Leica is perfectly capable of developing digital cameras in-house, and has been for some time; apart from sources of components such as sensors, processors, or LC panels, no partners are required.

We currently have the X2, so this one will have to be designated the Leica XXX.

No doubt the XXX will result in much camera porn being posted on the web. In addtion, this camera will have to be designated for sale only to those age 18 or older.

Aussies have Castlemaine XXXX (4X) beer. They are weaned on the stuff. Essential for a hot climate. Can't say I've tried it in NZ.

"...in fall"? Northern hemisphere autumn, September-October? That's springtime here.

Either that, or the Leica xXx will be hand delivered by Vin Diesel, and will transform you from mild mannered photographer to death defying covert operative.
