pat308 Posted April 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a whole bunch if Nikon glass for doing interesting stuff. I wanted to try and use some of these the M8. More out of curiosity than anything else right now. I know Novoflex has an adapter that will allow Nikon glass to be put onto an Leica M-Mount. I wondered if anybody here had already tried this with their M8 and if they had encountered any problems.

doubice Posted April 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2007 Pat, I have not tried Nikon lenses, but used to mount Leica R and Pentax Screw Mount lenses with adapters on M bodies in the past. There is no reason why you could not do it with Nikon lenses on an M8 body. As a matter of fact, it would be interesting if there would be any cyan corners with Nikon WA lenses, as they sit a lot farther from the sensor than Leica WA lenses. Make sure though, that the adapter has a provision to keep your Nikon lens at working aperture. Nikon is the only manufacturer (AFAIK), whose auto diaphragm system works oposite to other makers. With Nikon, a spring holds the aperture open and the camera's auto mechanism works against this spring to close the lens down to working aperture. This means that when the lens is not mounted on a body, the aperture always stays open, no matter where you set the f-stop scale. On other manufacturer's lenses the spring holds the aperture in the closed position, thus if the lens is not mounted on a camera, the aperture is always closed to the set f-stop. The Novoflex adapter should have a pin or a bar, which simulates closing of the aperture during exposure. All the best, Jan
Joe Mondello Posted April 24, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 24, 2007 Well I DID pick one up and haven't really played with it very much I'm afraid. The lenses do mount, but newer G lenses are pretty useless as they are always stopped all the way down with no way to open them up that I can see. Camera Quest makes a slightly more expensive version which uses an RF coupling device to get the right scale distance which you then transfer to the lens, but the Novoflex is for scale shooting only -- probably best at infinity. http://cameraquest.com/adaptslrRFM.htm without RF coupling their adapter is less expensive than the Novoflex . . . http://cameraquest.com/adpSLRRF.htm HTH
