SF58s not working on S2?

I have two SF58s that worked fine all last year.

Now neither seems to be communicating with the camera correctly.

The ISO on the flash's LCD doesn't match that set on the S2. I cannot set ETTL in the mode selection … only TTL, A, M and pulse is available … BUT, the flash does fire in TTL. The flash fires in TTL with either the FP to 1/125 or CS to 1/1000

It is not the lens … I tried various lenses.

The only difference I can think of is that I had up-dated the S2's firmware since last year, and it is the latest firmware (which I just confirmed when trying the 45CS lens this weekend).

Both SF58s show version 1.1 when first starting up.

I tried reseting both SF58s to no avail.

I'm perplexed. Anyone else experiencing this?

Any suggestions anyone?

Help!

Thanks,

I know that the S2 and SF58 are only supposed to work when set to TTL-HSS, and they did before.

Now TTT-HSS is not even showing on the SF58's menu … and TTL will work, except the ISO is not getting set to match that set on the S2.

This happens with two different SF58's

I just wondered if anyone else had this issue since updating the S2's firmware?

That is the only thing I can think of.

Hi Marc

I can confirm that mine still works ok on my S ... and that TTL-HSS is still an option. But, I had a similar issue to you last year that went away. I had something screwy in the setup menus .... cannot remember what. I have a vague memory, that the Leica instructions about the startup order of camera and flash were important ... but cannot swear to it

Yes, camera on … then flash on. That isn't the issue.

Right now I suspect the latest firmware version I installed to support the S45 (CS) that I am trying out.

Others have said their camera works, but they did not have this firmware installed:

Update version 1.3.0.0

The SF58 worked fine prior to installing the above firmware.

So, what I am trying to do is confirm that someone with firmware v1.3.0.0 installed can use their SF58 in the hot-shoe … and it allows selection of TTL-HSS, and that the ISO, f/stop, and focal length zoom settings are transferred from the S2 to the SF58.

Thanks for all the help folks!

I can verify that my S2 running firmware 1.3.0.0 works fine with the SF58 on the hot show (which has firmware 1.1).

Best, D
