Testing my M8 on a tripod with focus chart and at minimum focus distance shows that my 35 and 50 summicrons are spot on at f/2.0. At higher apertures focus remains centered on target.

The Noctilux back focus is not apparent at f/1.0 but as soon I start closing the apertue, the back focus becomes more and more severe.

At f/5.6 the focus shifts almost 6cm back and the target is clearly out of focus.

Is leica repairing Noctiluxs to fix this?

Can anyone else do the repair?

I called Leica USA but no one has returned my call as of yet.

any assistance appreciated.

I've been leaving messages with Leica NJ but so far no luck getting a call back.

Anyone had their Noctilux and M8 'adjusted' to work together?

Do they adjust the lens as well or change the M8's RF mechanism?

Eric--

I don't have a Noctilux, but the description you give sounds as if the lens is working properly. According to the Puts article Testreports, the lens should be in focus wide open; and many Leica designs do produce a focus shift when stopping down.

As you're aware, the Noctilux is corrected specifically for use wide open; but in normal use you would probably be more like 5-10 feet from the subject, wouldn't you? The same focus shift would occur, but would be masked by increased depth of field. In general, any lens shows its worst performance at closest focus, which is where you are testing it.

My Noct(current design) and 135 w/goggles backfocus a bit on the M8 but doesn't get any worse as it is stopped down. My other lenses focus close to ok. They all seem to be ok within reason on my M7.

This is just an information point as I really don't know anymore what's right or wrong anymore. :)
