X Vario Write Speeds

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a lightly used XV and I must buy an SD card to go along with it. I know faster is always better, but I'm wondering if buying the fastest SD or microSD card on the market it really necessary. At some point, extra speed won't improve performance. Does anybody know what the write speeds are for the XV?

Or, if you care to share anecdotal evidence about memory cards, I'm all ears.

In any case, I'm pretty excited to be getting a new camera :)

There is no special recommendation for memory cards regarding speed from Leica. The X Vario manual (p. 114) simply states: "You can use SD, SDHC or SDXC memory cards in the Leica X Vario."

Regarding the anecdotical: I am using a Samsung SD Card Plus with up to 48 MB/s transfer speed. But I think 24 MB/s would do as well (I tried one out).

You probably need the faster cards if you are recording HD movies.

Best regards, Gerd

16GB Sandisk Extreme would be good for the X-Vario...

I use it in the M (Typ 240) and M9-P before... it has 45MB/s write speeds...

This will be enough for video and stills... just don't buy any cheap cards... but you won't need the very fast cards either.

Thanks guys, the super fast 90MB/s cards are almost double the price and probably not worth it by the sounds of things.

My friend just shipped me the camera, so now the waiting game where I check the tracking number all the time begins! I haven't bought a new camera in 4 years so this is exciting :)

With 45 mb/s the camera functions fine, when using DNG+JPG after half a second or less the camera is ready for the next picture.

With older 15 mb/s after a DNG+JPG I have to wait about 3 seconds between pictures.
