Jim123456 Posted March 12, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone, I intend to buy a Leica M-E in a few days. However, I have heard this sensor has the crack problem because it has the same as Leica M9. So anyone knows that if Leica has fixed this problem on Leica M-E or anyone using Leica M-E has this issue? Thanks
Advertisement Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Hi Jim123456, Take a look here Anyone has the problem of Leica M-E sensor crack?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hhmrogers Posted March 12, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 12, 2014 Jim, I've had my M-E for over a year with no problems at all. I don't know how rare the sensor fault is, perhaps old hands here have some statistics? My guess is that it isn't particularly common but that's just a guess. jip Posted March 12, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 12, 2014 Also Jim if this happens, there are plenty M-E's in stock, or M240's so your dealer can give you a replacement camera, or loaner while it's being repaired... And I'm now talking worst case scenarios.
pop Posted March 12, 2014 Share #4 Posted March 12, 2014 As far as I know, the sensor cracking issue was solved while the M9 was still in production.
wattsy Posted March 12, 2014 Share #5 Posted March 12, 2014 As far as I know, the sensor cracking issue was solved while the M9 was still in production. I don't think so. My M9P (bought 2012) suffered a sensor crack a year later. I get the impression that the occurrence is much rarer now but not something that can be ruled out as "solved". pop Posted March 26, 2014 Share #9 Posted March 26, 2014 I don't think so. My M9P (bought 2012) suffered a sensor crack a year later. I get the impression that the occurrence is much rarer now but not something that can be ruled out as "solved". I think of that as two issues. One is the frequent sensor crack issue and the other the rare sensor crack issue. It happened with the lugs, too. The frequent one was systematic, hence solveable and solved, while the rare one is much more difficult to address. Not that that helps you if yours if afflicted. wattsy Posted March 26, 2014 Share #10 Posted March 26, 2014 I think mine was of your frequent ("solved") variety.
icemanhk Posted April 10, 2014 Share #11 Posted April 10, 2014 I think of that as two issues. One is the frequent sensor crack issue and the other the rare sensor crack issue. Not that that helps you if yours if afflicted. 6 of my friends have M9P cracked sensor after 1-2 years. My M9 cracked twice in 3 years. 1 friend got cracked S2P, MM & M9p (he is one of the 6 cracked M9P owners). Sounds like sensor cracking is kind of Leica experience My M-E is still alive after 6 months.....
Dolphin Posted April 11, 2014 Share #12 Posted April 11, 2014 I have a M9, almost 4 years old. Sensor (glas) cracked 3 weeks ago, during vacation (at the 1st. day - nice experience ...). Repairing will be carried out at the firms expense. At least, Leica cares about it ...
