satijntje Posted March 11, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 11, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Curious to see how many M240 are currently be offered second hand. Is it the premium price tag that this cameras carries? Can't remember seeing this back in 2011 when the M9 was announced.... Seems to be a hard time to sell them at the moment and prices are dropping now below 5k€ at the second hand market. That can be considered a fast depreciation of money, 20% in a few months Next time I will buy second hand :-), then the problem can be kept to a reasonable level. Advertisement Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Hi satijntje, Take a look here Seven M240 here is the classifieds section. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
george + Posted March 11, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 11, 2014 Camera, car or whatever, prices are a function of availability and real or perceived product change rates. And whatever people are willing to pay.
BerkMillers Posted March 11, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 11, 2014 24th of April is coming.... Maybe people are trying to get some refunds for their "old" gear to have money on the side for whatever Leica is going to start at the end of April.
Mr_Jones Posted March 11, 2014 Share #4 Posted March 11, 2014 Not surprising that 20% is around the VAT rate in the UK. I think the A7 will be behind a lot of these sales, the M is no longer the only game in town for Leica glass on a full frame sensor.
John Black Posted March 11, 2014 Share #5 Posted March 11, 2014 Why people are selling, I can't speak for them, but there are many market factors that may be influencing their decision to sell - • It's been a year since the first M-240's started shipping; M's are in stock at many Leica dealers. The early adopter phase has passed. • Many new options just in the last 6 months - the Oly OMD ME-1, a couple Fuji's (most notably the new X-T1) and the Sony A7 / A7r. • Photokina is coming and if Leica repeats history, an interim M update like a M-240 "P" is likely. John I would not normally respond to this type of thread but if your point is that the M240 is not as good as an M9 then surely this will prove itself in time when the price of a used M240 drops below that of a used M9 (condition being equal, of course). There are also a fair number of M9's (and M8's) in the used market. I'm not convinced this is because people are using Leica lenses on other cameras to the extent that this is having an effect (although some people obviously are). The more people that buy M cameras (and there has no doubt been a huge upturn in recent years - due in the main to the M9 and M) means that more transitional users will enter the market. Consequently "churn" will increase. And this is aside to the simple economic truth as pointed out by George. Anyway, back to more important issues of the day.....
