madNbad Posted March 11, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 11, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just traded my IIIc in on a very nice M2 and have been looking at adding a second take up spool. Is there a way to tell the difference between spools designed for later cameras from the earlier ones? Any help would be appreciated. I have tried looking through all the threads but couldn't find a definitive answer.
Advertisement Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Hi madNbad, Take a look here Difference between take up spools. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
giordano Posted March 11, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 11, 2014 For a M2 you need a 14022 (formerly SPOOM), which fits M1/2/3, the original MP and the I/II/IIIg. I believe, though I'm not certain, that these are distinguished by a satin chrome finish on the spring-loaded, knurled end. If a spool doesn't have a spring-loaded, knurled end (so you can get a better grip to pull it out of the camera), it's for an older screw-mount camera and won't work satisfactorily your M2. There are also, somewhat rarer, spools with a spring-loaded end (14021/SVOOP) which fit the older cameras but not the Ms and gs. As far as I know the spring-loaded end on this is never chromed. madNbad Posted March 11, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted March 11, 2014 Thank you. I did find the part number in my searching but I took a chance on one on E-bay with the satin chrome finish at the end of the shaft. The seller said he tried it in a IIIc and it didn't fit, so I'll know for sure in a couple of days.
