Arca Swiss L Bracket with M240

Hi all,

Does anyone use the standard Arca Swiss L Bracket (not the mini L bracket) with the M240?

It looks like the bracket mount can be left on the camera baseplate when removing the plate to access the SD card and battery. Can any user confirm this?

Information much appreciated.

You can't attach it to the standard base plate because there's no tripod socket in the plate, just a hole for access to the socket in the body.

The hand-grip has an independent tripod socket that the L-bracket can be attached to, but it makes it very much harder to attach the plate to the camera because it prevents the screw-wheel from moving freely enough to locate with the female-thread in the body. It risks damage to both threads, so I've stopped trying.

I haven't yet found a solution other than removing the plate each time I need access to the interior. I have both the Mini-L Plate and the full L-plate, both Arca-Swiss, the latter being the easier to use with the M240 in my opinion. Once attached, it is brilliant.

I'd recommend you take a look at the Really Right Stuff L-Bracket for the M240. Available as a kit or individually:- (1) replacement baseplate for M240 with built in Arca-Swiss fit QR plate (2) bolt on L Section (3) bolt on Grip.

I bought the complete kit but don't use the grip. It just works flawlessly and access to the battery and card is very simple.

Wouldn't be without it.

i'm currently using RRS's l-plate for my M240. works wonderfully without any problems whatsoever. it is well made and the l-plate is very sturdy with no play at all. You can buy them directly from RRS website. There will be some charge for international shipping, and they will tell you the exact amount. the only thing you need to worry about is your country's customs. I had to pay an extra 20 dollars to customs in Thailand.

Keith, how do you buy RRS items in the UK? For relatively low price things like plates, buying from the US seems such a blooming palava, to use the technical term.

Peter, tell me about it!

As far as I know the only way is directly from RRS. Once the VAT, import duties and postage were added it cost me a total of approx £220 for a $198 (£120) item!

It makes my eyes water but I wouldn't be without the RRS L-Brackets for my cameras.

Having said all that, the ordering process and import is simple enough via RRS and the duties are collected before delivery by the courier.

RRS is by far the most efficient shipper of any that I have seen.

Items ordered late afternoon in Toronto arrive by next noon from California.

Their customs documentation is excellent.

Just wish their handgrip was a bit more fitting.

Yes I've always winced at the cost of importing into the UK, but recently found that PhotoProShop in Germany stock some of the RRS range - I bought my base plate from them and it was delivered within 3 days: https://www.photoproshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/1721

That's crazy. I suspect that you are getting slammed by FedEx/UPS "brokerage fees".

In North America, people buy direct from RRS. As far as I know, RRS doesn't have any dealers in the US or Canada.

If it makes economic sense, I'd be happy to assist if a group of people in Europe want RRS plates. They could be delivered to NY and mailed from here via the US Postal Service (which doesn't extort "brokerage") to an address in Europe, and then mailed to the participants by whoever receives them. To raise everyone's confidence level, one or two other people from NY could also be involved at this end. Mailing cost from here could be handled via PayPal.

Cheers
