I've wanted to know for the longest time, why is the X Vario code named Paula? We know "Henri" for the Monochrom is named after HCB. But why "Paula" for the XV? Can anyone enlighten?

AFAIK, it was nothing to do with Leica. It was a name given to the camera by Jono Slack, an individual Leica gave an advance copy to. I'm not sure what his inspiration was for picking Paula.

It was Leica … but I don’t know what inspired Leica to choose this name.

Well they had to call the project something during development, so why not?

And does it really matter?

It doesn't matter, but all the same they must have had a reason to use that name, as in the case of the Monochrom. So it would be nice to know.

They named it in memory of my Mum, which was nice of them. Shame it turned out to be the XV.

A lot many users think the XV is a superb camera, so maybe it's not a shame after all ;)
