colonel Posted March 1, 2014 Share #21 Posted March 1, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) The X1/2 have metal top and bottom plates. I'm pretty certain the same goes for the upper Fuji models too. sorry if that's my mistake The X1 and X2 spoil the show a little with the plastic flash mount and the plastic lens protrusion Only the Fuji X-pro1 and T1 have a metal top mount The X-E1 and E2 are plastic, which IMHO is a shame as a metal top plate would round those cameras off nicely
Advertisement Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Hi colonel, Take a look here X Vario now available in Silver. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted March 1, 2014 Share #22 Posted March 1, 2014 Only the Fuji X-pro1 and T1 have a metal top mountThe X-E1 and E2 are plastic It’s magnesium, not plastic. And of course to top of the Leica X1 and X2 is metal, too.
pleeson Posted March 2, 2014 Share #23 Posted March 2, 2014 Don't quite get the fear of "plastic" Boeing's 777 Dreamliner has a "plastic" composite skin on the fuselage; probably pretty durable
hh605 Posted March 2, 2014 Share #24 Posted March 2, 2014 I usually prefer the silver models but for some reason I think the black looks much better with vario
firoze Posted March 3, 2014 Author Share #25 Posted March 3, 2014 I usually prefer the silver models but for some reason I think the black looks much better with vario That's interesting. Are you basing your preference on actually seeing them in the flesh, or on the photos posted online?
hh605 Posted March 3, 2014 Share #26 Posted March 3, 2014 That's interesting. Are you basing your preference on actually seeing them in the flesh, or on the photos posted online? I own the black version and the silver version, I only saw in photos. However, the with the size and the color of the lens on XV, I think that the black one just looks better. Just my 2 cents
mikej Posted May 16, 2014 Share #27 Posted May 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, all - I just saw that B&H has now reduced the price of the silver X Vario to match the discounted price of the black version. Mighty tempted now. Cheers, Mike
calithumpian Posted May 17, 2014 Share #28 Posted May 17, 2014 The Silver X Vario is a beautiful camera, I received mine after weighing up the T in store. The differences between the black and silver Vario are the same as the differences between the black and silver X2 – silver top and bottom plate and dials and black hatched grip on the silver... black plates, dials and black faux-leather grip on the black. There have been some great deals on the Vario recently which can now be had for only a few hundred more for body+ lens than the 18-56 T lens alone. Add to this that the Vario lens in made in Germany (not Japan), with a brilliant MF focus ring (AF dent and distance markings), and the 35mm equiv. focal length markings and it feels a cut above the 18-56 T lens. Throw in the body which has the same sensor as the T, the same resolution screen and both superb build quality (although the T feels incredible), and as long as you can handle the f/3.5-6.4 aperture, you will reap benefit from the incredible detail and size of this lens (perfect for architecture and landscape).... the Vario remains a superb little camera.
