The X1/2 have metal top and bottom plates. I'm pretty certain the same goes for the upper Fuji models too.

sorry if that's my mistake

The X1 and X2 spoil the show a little with the plastic flash mount and the plastic lens protrusion

Only the Fuji X-pro1 and T1 have a metal top mount

The X-E1 and E2 are plastic, which IMHO is a shame as a metal top plate would round those cameras off nicely

It’s magnesium, not plastic. And of course to top of the Leica X1 and X2 is metal, too.

I usually prefer the silver models but for some reason I think the black looks much better with vario :)

That's interesting. Are you basing your preference on actually seeing them in the flesh, or on the photos posted online?

I own the black version and the silver version, I only saw in photos. However, the with the size and the color of the lens on XV, I think that the black one just looks better. Just my 2 cents :D

The Silver X Vario is a beautiful camera, I received mine after weighing up the T in store. The differences between the black and silver Vario are the same as the differences between the black and silver X2 – silver top and bottom plate and dials and black hatched grip on the silver... black plates, dials and black faux-leather grip on the black. There have been some great deals on the Vario recently which can now be had for only a few hundred more for body+ lens than the 18-56 T lens alone. Add to this that the Vario lens in made in Germany (not Japan), with a brilliant MF focus ring (AF dent and distance markings), and the 35mm equiv. focal length markings and it feels a cut above the 18-56 T lens. Throw in the body which has the same sensor as the T, the same resolution screen and both superb build quality (although the T feels incredible), and as long as you can handle the f/3.5-6.4 aperture, you will reap benefit from the incredible detail and size of this lens (perfect for architecture and landscape).... the Vario remains a superb little camera.
