peterv Posted April 22, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, Â I starting lurking on the International Film, and the German Analog Forum a few weeks ago as I become more and more interested in working with one last, ultimate 35 mm filmcamera... Â Last year I bought a D Lux 2, than a M8, and now I'm seriously thinking about buying an MP... Â When I take a look at the a la carte config page, I get the picture below. Â My question is: Does the 28 mm bring up the 90 mm framelines, and would it be possible the use the whole image area as the approximate field of view of the 28? Â Thanks a lot, Â Peter
Advertisement Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Hi peterv, Take a look here 28 mm usable on 0.85 magnification viewfinder?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bill Posted April 22, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 22, 2007 Hello Peter, Â I shall reply, but with the following caveat - this is a VERY personal thing. If you can try a .85 at all - beg, steal or borrow one - I would advise that you do. Â In my personal experience a 28mm is entirely useable with the .85 viewfinder. I have an M7 .85 and have used it with a VC28. I did exactly what you ask, and used the full frame to compose. It was fine, but I probably wouldn't recommend it for critical framing. It certainly worked for me. I'm not a big wideangle user and sold the lens on after a bit, but not because it wasn't viable, more because the 28mm fov just wasn't me. Â The other point I would make is that I wear spectacles. I was still able to get my eye close enough, but I grant that I did have to "look around" a bit. Â Regards, Â Bill

Photoskeptic Posted April 23, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted April 23, 2007 It is usable. The only caveat I would give is that it's a bit like shooting any other lens where there are no framelines (the CV 15 comes to mind). After you've used it on a bit you get an idea of how much out of frame you are.
dorman Posted April 25, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted April 25, 2007 Possibly a minor issue with a 28mm lens, but you would loose the parallax compensation if you use the whole finder area.

Thanks, didn't think of that before. Anyway, I'll have to get used to that because I just ordered one yesterday.  Knd Rgrds,  Peter
