What is this?

A friend of mine bought this ocular with a mirror as part of a group of Leitz accesories.

I visited him, and we were puzzled with this item. Does it belong to a microcospe? The case, which I did not photograph, is beautifully lined with silk.

I haven't the foggiest notion; however, the pictures remind me of some kind of apparatus which assisted drawing, for use with microscopy, perhaps. A quick research in the internet yielded a document which shows somewhat similar equipment.

I think it's more part of a 'camera lucida', because there is an ocular with 2 filters, or sort of.

 

You are probably right. Unless the optics some how fit over where the microscope eye piece lens would go. It looks like there is a tightening screw used to secure the optics over something.
