k-hawinkler Posted February 3, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I highly recommend using Trim Enabler 3.0 groths.org for internal non-Apple SSD. It's free or $10 for the Pro version. I use it for a Crucial 960GB SSD in a 2009 17" MacBook Pro. Not needed for Apple SSD. Worth reading: Samsung Solid State Drive SSD White Paper http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/samsungssd/downloads/Samsung_SSD_Whitepaper.pdf. Just ignore their PR. Lloyd Chambers' MPG blog - Restoring solid state drive performance with DiskTester ‘recondition’ One can also use Apple's Disk Utility erase with security overwrite for this. Several passes required. DiskTester ‘recondition’ is useful as it also shows the progress of the procedure.
Advertisement Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Hi k-hawinkler, Take a look here Trim Enabler for internal non-Apple SSD. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jip Posted February 4, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 4, 2014 Yes Trim prolongs the lifetime of a SSD but basically a SSD will last you longer than a HDD will be safe to use... I've used the same application though, in my MacPro with PCI-E SSD for ultra fast RAID storage...
