Guest redge Posted January 31, 2014 Share #1  Posted January 31, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Happy 100th birthday, Leica! | Art and design | theguardian.com  Guardian photographer Sean Smith:  "In the last few years, at last, Leica have made up for lost time. With the new M Type 240, it has produced a camera that could be as revolutionary for documentary video as its first camera was for still photography.  What makes the new Leica so special is that the rangefinder gives the intimacy of a small camera, but you also get its legendary lenses. I think a new kind of journalistic video will be able to take a very large step forward thanks to the M type 240, and the new video function on this camera could be as important as those early Leicas." photolandscape Posted January 31, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted January 31, 2014 Redge, Â Nice article, thanks for sharing. Question re: your name--is "Redge" a fusion of the words red edge? Have you experienced red edging with your M?
Guest redge Posted January 31, 2014 Share #3  Posted January 31, 2014 No red edging  Just did a search and learned that Sean Smith is a prominent photojournalist who also has significant video journalism experience.
chris_tribble Posted February 1, 2014 Share #4  Posted February 1, 2014 I don't know if others have checked the video that Smith has produced. By far and away the most impressive work I've seen done with the M-240. OK, IMHO a bit of stabilisation would have improved the opening sequences, but the interior work is impressive. I'd love to know what settings he was using - I'll send him an email and if there's any response, report back.  Check: Funny Girls: behind the scenes at Blackpool's longest-running drag revue – video | Stage | theguardian.com

I had not seen that. Now added to Leica M 240 Video and Tweeted. It's not certain, but I think that Mr. Smith is @seanphotosmith on Twitter. He doesn't appear to have a website. chris_tribble Posted February 1, 2014 Share #7 Â Posted February 1, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Redge - I was having problems tracking him too. As a twitter avoider, I'm not well placed to try to reach him via that route. Anyone able to have a go? I'd love to hear how he did the shoot. Guest redge Posted February 1, 2014 Share #8 Â Posted February 1, 2014 Chris, Â The way Twitter works, I can't send him a message directly. However, I've sent a tweet asking if @seanphotosmith made the Funny Girls video. We'll see if there's a reply. Â You could probably reach him via an email to The Guardian. andybarton Posted February 2, 2014 Share #9  Posted February 2, 2014 I have had a look for him on Twitter  He's a Tweeter who re-Tweets other people's Tweets, rather than posting stuff himself. He's not one of the big self-promoter types, so I can't find any link to any of his work via his Twitter feed.  According to the Guardian, that Twitter account is the correct one.
