DavidStone Posted April 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I took a few shots yesterday with the M8, using DNG+Jpg. I downloaded the jpegs and left the DNG files in the camera. Now today I go to download the DNGs and they are not there. The card is empty. Is this normal? Previously I've downloaded the jpegs and DNGs to separate folders, but all in one session, without problems. Looks like I need to do this every time in future. FWIW, I'm using a Mac, and Image Capture as my download software, but his might not be relevant. David Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

mikeadams Posted April 21, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 21, 2007 I too normally use Image Capture, and if I have 50 or so JPEGS or DNG, it seems to work. But when I completely filled the San Disc x133 2GB, Image capture said no images, so I bought a San Disk card rader and it works fine. I also tried to put the card from the M8 into the Digilux 2, but it would not recognize. By the way, I could never use Image Capture for RAW from the Digilux 2 - it froze the program after downloading one or two. So I use the USB cable for a few on a card, the reader for a full card. Check the card in the camera to see how much room it shows still available for images. Probably it doesn't show that the full card is available; that would indicate that the files are still there but for some reason the system isn't seeing them. Don't make any changes to the card at the moment. Using a card reader, verify that the computer can't see anything on the card. If that's the case, you'll want to try one of the available data rescue applications--Rescue Pro, I think, is the generally accepted one. A free download will let you see whether it will be able to retrieve the files, but to actually recover them you'll need to purchase the program. My suggestion is a simple one: Don't make things overly complicated. Using the Finder, just drag all the files of interest from the card (in the card-reader) to the hard disk, and arrange them later. I use the USB socket because the card-reader doesn't recognise DNGs - only the jpegs show. There's some incompatibility here that I've not yet identified. I'm using a card that's not on Leica's list, but was recommended by someone on the forum, and it works. Fortunately the images were not important, and I have good jpegs. ho_co Posted April 21, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 21, 2007 David-- Actually, I think it's the software that doesn't recognize the DNGs, because Apple hasn't built that functionality into the OS yet. But since the Finder doesn't try to do any interpretation, it just sees them as another file type. I use a card reader with my Mac all the time, and the Finder sees both DNGs and JPGs. Unless there's some particular feature you want from Image Capture, the easiest way to copy files to the hard disk is just to open the card on the desktop and drag files to a holding place whence you can process them as you will.
