How to use M8 DNG files with Apple Aperture Software

Recommended Posts

Amrin,

I completely agree with Jono on this. If you follow Eoin's directions, you will essentially modify a single file that will then "read" the converted and imported DNG files They work very nicely in Aperture, by the way, just needing a bit of saturation and contrast boost for some, but otherwise nice and clean conversions.

There is even an Automator that has been created. Once you modify the Raw.plist file, per Eoin's instructions, install the Automator also. Then, you simply download the DNG files from your card to any folder you want in your storage structure. Open Aperture, open the Automator, and select that folder. The files are automatically duplicated, to a temporary folder, converted with the Adobe DNG converter, imported into Aperture to a new folder called "M8" (which you can rename), and then the temp files are tossed out. You still have the original DNGs for later or other use, and you now have the converted files placed into Aperture. Very nice little workflow feature making it all painless.

The updates for the M8 and other Leica DNG files will be coming for Apple/Aperture, but nobody knows just when. In the meantime, this hack does a great job.
