dkCambridgeshire Posted January 12, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 12, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Following on from Gobdulm's post http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/288827-leica-x-vario-photos-10.html the following illustrates the XV's native minimum focus distance with the lens set to 46mm (70mm FF equivalent): Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Actual subject distance from front lens element = 19cm Approx. sensor to subject distance = 27.5cm (which differs from published 30cm by 2.5cm) Subject width recorded = 10cm Magnification on 23.6mm width sensor: 2.36/10 = 0.236 i.e almost 1/4 life size Thus Leica's published data i.e. 27cm subject width at 30cm distance i.e 23.6/270 = 0.087 mag i.e approx 1/10 life size magnification is somewhat inaccurate - but maybe they have quoted deliberately conservative figures. Adding Leitz Elpro c/u lenses via stepping rings can improve the magnification to beyond 0.5 i.e half life size. 2wk Posted January 12, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 12, 2014 I like your Macro shots Dunk. I would like to come across some of these Elpro lenses myself, and give them a try! Cheers.
Gobdulm Posted January 12, 2014 Share #3 Posted January 12, 2014 I was very close to the flower. In fact I watched as it touched the lens. Thanks for the study.
dkCambridgeshire Posted January 12, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted January 12, 2014 I like your Macro shots Dunk. I would like to come across some of these Elpro lenses myself, and give them a try! Cheers. Thank you … I see used Elpro c/u lenses regularly listed by US dealers and on US Ebay … and my niece in Salt Lake has bought three for me for as little as $10 to $20 each … they're more expensive in Europe. I use the Elpro VIb and Elpro 2 and have several of each; two or three can be stacked together with good results. I'm currently awaiting some Series Vi to 43mm (for the XV) and Series VI to 49mm (for the X1) custom made stepping rings from SRB Griturn. I've made my own Series VI adaptors using modified filter rings and stepping rings epoxy cemented onto the Elpro lenses but the custom rings will be much neater.
