d-lux 3 problem

hi all

my girlfriend just bought a d-lux 3 and i thought i'd set it up for her. i opened the packing. charged the battery until it was fully charged. popped the battery in and the memory card. turned on the camera. pressed the shutter down half way but no image gets displayed on the lcd monitor. i went through all the settings making sure that everything looked okay. but i still can't get the lcd screen to show the image. when i snap a picture, and then try to view it, it comes up black/blank confirming that the camera didn't "see" the image in the first place. the battery icon on the lcd screen indicates that the battery is fully charged and all the other appropriate icons show on the screen.

does anyone have an idea what the problem may be? or, should it be packed up and sent back to the dealer?

thanks

richard

If I was mean-spirited I would ask if you took the lens cap off, but I'm not, so I won't.

Hehe, just wat I was thinking, but you get a warning on your dispay when you forget to take it off. I take it the lcd does show the menus?

Did you already format the sd card in the camera? Is it set possibly set on manual and are you underexposing? Just some thoughts...

Hope you get it to work.

thank you all for your replies. for the record, all the appropriate icons displayed properly, the camera was doing all the right things except display the image on the lcd and take the picture (the picture when viewed would be entirely black). oh, and yes, i had the lenscap off :). the camera as they say was FUBAR so the camera was returned to the dealer for a proper operating d-lux 3.

i totally agree. the camera is a lot of fun to use. my girlfriend and I vie for who gets to use the camera even though I have my own behemouth Canon 1ds MkII. this little Leica packs a punch. i thought it was just a toy but it is a very serious camera in a little package. i think i'll buy my own :)

Glad you exchanged it. It's a great little camera with which I have had zero problems in the six months+ I have owned it (I was lucky and got one of the first ones out).
