losta Posted April 19, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Next weekend I leave for my big trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico and I really want my M8 to be there. I have a first gen M8 that has not been back to Solms for the fix. I have coded 21and 24 elmarits, 28 and 35 crons, and nocti. I have purchased 3 B+W and 1 Leica UV/IR filters as Leica has yet to send me the ones I ordered in December. Â I am a bit scared of sudden death, I currently have 1.092. What are the advantages of 1.102? Are there any disadvantages of 1.102? Â Thank you in advance.
Advertisement Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Hi losta, Take a look here Is it safe? (1.102). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wparsonsgisnet Posted April 19, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 19, 2007 Lisa, there is a long thread here, actually a couple of them, about 1.102. Â You should know that Guy and others, probably Sean and Jamie tho they're not lettng the cat out of the bag, beta tested 1.1 before it was released. Â Guy, at least, was happy with it ('course he's happy a lot...). He was clearly restraining himself with great difficulty while we were all grumbling and he was shooting like crazy with 1.1. Â I've been using it since about 5 minutes after it was posted in the download page and have no complaints. Â Color is good and noise seems to be reduced a little. Oddly, it saems to reduce the capacity of the SD cards a little. The dng's are the same size, but maybe jpg's are different. Â Looking back at shots from 1.06, I see that my jpg's ran from 2.1mb to 5+ mb. They are about the same now. Anyway, I noticed that my 2GB cards hold a few less pictures than they did under 1.06. erl Posted April 19, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted April 19, 2007 Lisa, Â If you are worried about 1.102, carry 1.092 with you on an SD card so that if you become unhappy, just switch back. Â Enjoy the trip.
DaveEP Posted April 19, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted April 19, 2007 The advantages of 1.102 are the fixes for cyan drift when using the IR filters. I would not go back to 1.092 now....
Shootist Posted April 19, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted April 19, 2007 It is as safe as all other firmwares released for the M8 and it add some features/correction that were needed when using the IR cut filters.
Hartmonstr Posted April 19, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted April 19, 2007 Lisa, I will be in Santa Fe next weekend, as well. I'll watch for the other person with an M8 around her neck. ;-) Go ahead and use the update - the tangible benefits far outweigh any worries about what *could* happen. Â Take pictures! Have fun! Eat chilis! Â John
