david_choy58 Posted April 19, 2007 Share #1  Posted April 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) What tools do you guys use for to convert your M8 raw images?  I've been using different tools and find them they have pros and cons:  Lightroom - Pretty good overall but color looks a bit blend. - The images seem to have some artifacts at contrast areas (e.g. between snow and some dark areas) but sharp. - More work is required to get great results generally  Silkypix - Very good color. - Little work to get good results (Auto WB is great as the M8 auto WB sucks) - Pics have a little bit of water color effect - Not as sharp as C1 and Lightroom  C1 - Color is similar to Lightroom - Sharpest image for the 3 tools - Auto WB is not good hence a bit more work is required to get great results  Personally, my preference is: 1.) Silkypix (lazy tool to get great results) 2.) C1 sharpest image from the 3 tools 3.) Lightroom, need quite a bit of work to get decent results  Would be good to hear your thoughts!!! johnkuo Posted April 19, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 19, 2007 I use C1 mostly as I find it gives me the best image quality. I favorite profile is jamie's chrome profile (Thanks Jamie!). I get a velvia like look from this set up. I like the lightroom interface, but sometimes the color looks "digital" for lack of a better description. Maybe I need to adjust the calibration tab, but so far C1 has been my favorite, and I have been using it for years so it's all very familiar.
pat308 Posted April 19, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted April 19, 2007 I switched to Raw Developer for all my D2X work. Exporting TIFF's and pulling the TIFF's into Aperture. I intend to try the same trick with M8 files. Â I found raw developer produced superior images for my D2X. I tried many many other apps prior to that. Â Raw Developer is fast too. Their website is not very flashy, but if they support the M8 and I am not yet sure they do, you should definitely check it out.
