55mm Finder?

Does any one know if there was ever a 55mm finder (35mm) made by any company? I want it to use on my M8.

Why? the 50mm framelines are as accurate as any external VF. The leica standard lenses range in focal length from 51.6 (50 Summilux) to 52.4 (50 Noctilux). What lens are you trying to use?

I doubt it sincerely. The use of an accessory finder was always frowned on and avoided wherever possible.

 

The earliest Contaxes and Leicas had finders for the 50mm focal length and required external finders for everything else. And that meant carrying a finder for each additional lens you had, or buying a universal finder that could be set for each focal length.

 

Then came the M3, and for the first time a camera carried all the frames you most likely would need.

 

Neither Leica nor Zeiss built a 55mm lens. And since Nikon followed the Contax design and Canon the Leica design, I don't think either of them offered a 55--just too close to the normal lens, no reason to do it.

 

So whatever your needs, I think you're out of luck on this one.

If you are desperate you could check out some of the accessory finders made for underwater use.

 

Maybe try Helix camera in Chicago.

I have the Pentax 43mm and really get comfortable with any of the frame lines in the viewfinder. The 35mm is to wide and 50mm is to long, I have a 40mm aswell and this works ok with the 35mm lines.

 

If any one has any ideas then let me know?

Well, take any viewfinder for a larger angle of view than your lenses and tape the edges off. With the M8 you can easily compare what you see through the finder with the digital output to fine tune the taping.
