Failure

For the past few months, a video engineer friend of mine has been trying to get an external signal out of the EVF finder to send to a monitor. For professional video shoots the ability for a camera to send a signal to an external monitor is essential for the clients and director to see what is being shot. But after many trials, we have failed. We would need thousands of dollars of specialized equipment to do the hack. Even if we did pull a signal out of the EVF finder, the image quality would not be great. Oh, Well..... It is a shame we can not get an external signal to a monitor, because the M240 does produce excellent video images which are totally usable in our video productions. But if the director cannot see the image while it is being shot or review it on an external monitor, the Leica cannot be used in any of our productions. Alas, we are left with a great auteur camera which can be used in very limited circumstances.

Hopefully, the next iteration of the M240 will have an HDMI output.

Ciao, Sully

Finally, a camera that doesn't pander to assorted hangers-on holding a video village scrum :)

That said, does anyone know whether the multifunction hand grip can be used to transfer video footage from the camera to a tethered laptop and displayed on the laptop's screen? Presumably, this can be done. Then the question is, does the shot have to be completed and the file closed off before the transfer and display on the screen, or can the footage be played, presumably with some lag, as it is recorded? Probably the former, but if anyone knows for sure it would be helpful to know. Either way, it strikes me as pretty workable.
