My new M240 - Impressed by useability

Second outing with the camera yesterday afternoon, to Swindon's Steam Museum, along with other camera club members. Did not want to be encumbered by a tripod so relied on the M's new-found high ISO capability. Using a ZM Biogon 21mm and VF-2 I was delighted to be able to capture images at ISO 6400 and 1/15th second. Quite amazed at the apparent lack of noise etc after just a few tweaks in LR5. This one is a close-up of the 'Caerphilly Castle' 4-6-0 locomotive, one of the Castle Class. Many more images yet to be processed.

Seems to me that the M240 + VF-2 provides an ideal photographic package, combining the best of DSLR & rangefinder attributes.

Could not have captured this with my M9. Having previously owned a 5D MkII, I know I would have needed a tripod and to have gone through the 'mirror lock-up' procedure. M240 + VF-2? No problem at ISO 5000 & 1/15th sec hand-held with a very pleasingly noise-free result. Best choice on the market (for my usage, anyway!).

The VF-2 is brilliant for low-light work isn't it :)

It makes it a breeze to focus at 0.95 in very dark environments even. The rangefinder/OVF can't touch the VF-2 for low-light work.

Anyone that thinks that they don't need the EVF should wake up. Especially if they shoot in very dim light at fast apertures.

Hmm. Not my experience at all. 1/15th sec is not at all difficult on the Canon. with a 21mm lens it's easy. Remember that Canon also has 24, 28 and 35mm lenses now with IS, which will make it even more reliable.

Pastor Hultquist at Ryssby Church near Longmont Colorado last night. Not a great picture (I know), but it is the season! Lecia M240 handheld at ISO 4000, Summilux FLE at 1.4, 1/90 sec. M240 seems to handle high ISOs just fine.
