madNbad Posted December 2, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 2, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) For years I agonized about where to send my M6 TTL for the finder upgrade. I had checked with just about all of the top folks here in the United States. Two years ago the M6 was traded in towards a M6 TTL Millennium edition. More agonizing, read and reread threads from users who had the upgrade done, by whom and how they liked the work. A couple of months ago there was a post in the "l love my M6" thread from Phillipus. He had sent his Millennium (or more properly "Black Lacquer") to Solms. He was kind enough to give me the rundown or cost and worked performed. It helped me make my decision to send my camera almost halfway around the world. The box arrived by DHL today and all I can say is wow! The viewfinder is bright and flare free, the shutter release is smooth, light and quiet. It looks like a new camera and functions like an old friend. Thank you, Phillip! Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Ansel_Adams Posted December 3, 2013 Share #2 Posted December 3, 2013 Very nice camera! I am contemplating a service/finder upgrade for my M6 classic also... How much did it cost you to send to Solms out of interest? And how long did it take?
madNbad Posted December 3, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted December 3, 2013 Enough to make it a tough decision... I'll send a PM with the details.
philipus Posted December 3, 2013 Share #4 Posted December 3, 2013 It was my pleasure to help. I am thrilled it worked out so well. The camera looks great (I feel somewhat ashamed that mine was deemed as a "heavy user" by the people in Solms...). I fully understand what you mean by the difference in operation. It's really amazing what they can achieve at CS. I've shot some 10-15 rolls through my camera since it returned and I am completely unable to make the patch flare. It's worth every penny and the wait too! Best Philip
tookaphotoof Posted December 3, 2013 Share #5 Posted December 3, 2013 Good to hear it will be worth the wait. Haven't used the M6 since I got the MP. The patch flare just irritated the hell out of me. Mine will be send in this week.
madNbad Posted December 3, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted December 3, 2013 This particular camera was a safe queen. I watched on the KEH site for quite some time before making my decision. When it arrived, it was still in the factory wrapping. The only reason it was downgraded by KEH was because the original documentation was missing. I was glad I had the shutter release point adjusted but was told by Customer Care the reduced number of frame lines was available for the MP but not for the TTL due to the flash symbol. A little tricky with communication being nine hours different but over all a very positive experience. By the way, I found the 50 Summicron at a local shop for a great price. Thanks again! smb Posted December 3, 2013 Share #7 Posted December 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an M6ttl 0.85 that flared. When the advance broke I sent it to Sherry Krauter for repair. While in for repair and CLA I had the viewfinder upgraded to an MP. It stopped flaring and was a vast improvement. It took about a month. I do not find that my M6 Classic in need of an MP viewfinder.
