Guest malland Posted April 17, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sean Reid has posted an interesting review of the D-Lux 3 on his site, to which I contributed a "second opinion". As I thought there was a good amount of interest in the D-Lux 3, I'm surprised there has been no discussion of this review — don't get me wrong: I don't get anything out of this, but I was just interested in people's reactions to the views Sean and I expressed. —Mitch/Perth http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/
Advertisement Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Hi Guest malland, Take a look here Interesting D-Lux 3 Review. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DaveEP Posted April 17, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 17, 2007 FWIW I agree with most (if not all) the stuff in this review. I have a D-Lux3 as my 'pocket camera', and have had several shots taken with it published in news papers and magazines (when that is the only camera I had with me). There have also been a couple of times where the D-Lux 3 got the shot and the M8 failed (because of no flash with me). My main complaints about the D-Lux 3 are : 1) Shooting above ISO400 is problematic (as per the review) 2) Video mode does not allow zoom while shooting (yes - I know it's a camera but it means I don't have to carry a camcorder!) 3) RAW+JPG - I would like to turn JPG off. RAW files are big, and having a JPG doesn't help! 4) Unless you are in the sweet spot, the flash is pretty bad. This all sounds pretty negative, but overall I think it's a very good pocket camera. galavanter Posted April 18, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 18, 2007 Sean Reid has posted an interesting review of the D-Lux 3 on his site, to which I contributed a "second opinion". As I thought there was a good amount of interest in the D-Lux 3, I'm surprised there has been no discussion of this review Hey! I mentioned you by name just last night on RFF: "Just last night I was on Reid's site reading his review of the Leica D-LUX 3. There's another fellow, Mitch Alland, who contributed to the review, who uses the D-LUX 3 and the GRD and has some great B/W pics. Says he hasn't shot his M6's since. One pic of a beautiful woman in Thailand had me saying yeah, sell all this RF stuff, get a GRD (or whatever), hop a plane and go to Bangkok." I have to take this opportunity to ask you what PP you do and the software you use if you don't mind. It's a thread about the new Ricoh GX100. http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38817&page=2 Regards, Jim
Guest malland Posted April 18, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 18, 2007 Thanks for the kind words, Jim. Lately, I've been using SILKYPIX for RAW conversion and conversion to B&W. Then, I use Lightzone for tonal adjustment and dodging and burning; after that I often apply Unsharp Mask at 20/50/0 in Photoshop to increase midtone contrast, followed by a tone curve if necessary. —Mitch/Perth Flickr: Photos from Mitch Alland
sean_reid Posted April 18, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 18, 2007 I guess the D-Lux 3 isn't a current hot topic here but it is a great little camera and I appreciate your contribution to the article Mitch. Cheers, Sean
gesper Posted April 18, 2007 Share #6 Posted April 18, 2007 Totally agree with the review. I looked far and wide for a back-up camera small enough to have with me all the time, yet with maximum manual and RAW capability. It's not perfect, but I couldnt find anything else that came even close.
