simonpj Posted November 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has LR5 brought any image quality improvements to M9 files - or are the improvements all in workflow, tools, etc.? Thanks, Simon
Advertisement Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Hi simonpj, Take a look here Lightroom 5: any improvements to M9 files?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted November 22, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 22, 2013 Has LR5 brought any image quality improvements to M9 files.... Improvements compared to what? If you mean LR4, the processing engine is the same, but some of the new tools may lead to better results. Jeff
Ulrik Posted November 22, 2013 Share #3 Posted November 22, 2013 Improvements compared to what? Jeff Presumably LR4, a question I am interested in myself. Ulrik

k_g_wolf ✝ Posted November 22, 2013 Share #5 Posted November 22, 2013 Tried to upgrade from LR 4.2 to LR 5.1 these days. Unfortunately the catalog stopped synchronizing after 60% of the task. Did it three times, no luck ... Does - by chance - anybody know what could cause this mess? It did the same with LR 5.2 which I downloaded, this time foc. Fortunately I managed to set things back to 4.2 and it works as before. Best GEORG
Bart D Posted November 22, 2013 Share #6 Posted November 22, 2013 Any "missing photo's" in the catalog? I seem to remember reading that this causes problems.
simonpj Posted November 22, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted November 22, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, sorry - I meant compared to LR4. From what I can gather, the core processing engine hasn't changed, so I assume LR5 doesn't offer significant improvements processing M9 files. At a certain point the process seemed stopped, but I refrained from aborting. The procedure took nearly 10 hours, and concluded happily.
Jeff S Posted November 23, 2013 Share #9 Posted November 23, 2013 From what I can gather, the core processing engine hasn't changed... Correct, as I said in the first response to your question...no need to gather. Jeff
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted November 23, 2013 Share #10 Posted November 23, 2013 Thx for this, Manolo! Have app. 90,000 photos to deal with, and it seems I was not patient enough. Try it again. Best GEORG
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted November 24, 2013 Share #11 Posted November 24, 2013 After 12 hours of >>Loading Files<< no improvement towards LR 5 coming from 4. Did nobody else round here experience this problem ?? Any known workarounds ? Even upgrading to LR 5.2 didn´t change things ... Any tips are welcome. Thx GEORG

Any "missing photo's" in the catalog?I seem to remember reading that this causes problems. Another option would be to break up your catalog in different parts and see which of those parts get converted properly and which doesn't. That way you could narrow down the cause. Lots of work, I know. For what it's worth, I just converted a catalog of about 10 000 files this morning. This took minutes and I'm not using some kind of speed demon machine

Lots of work, I know. For what it's worth, I just converted a catalog of about 10 000 files this morning. This took minutes and I'm not using some kind of speed demon machine Doing a "library > find all missing photos" command is perhaps a must... And answering your question: I like LR5 even better than LR4, being essentially the same software. There are for instance some refinements in the management of the pictures's geometry that could be useful (a "Basic" submenu has been added to "Lens corrections").
