Where have all the manual cameras gone?

In 2005 I forsook my Contax G2 black outfit and went fully digital with a Canon 20D. Over the next few years I followed this path with a 5D then 5D MkII whilst also expanding the number of lenses, resulting in toting around far too many kg's. Health reasons then drove a rethink and I downsized weight and size-wise to an M9 - but all the time there lurked at the back of my mind a sneaky wish to use film again. Discovering my old and trusty Pentax ME Super in a dusty old gadget bag in the bottom of the wardrobe was enough to prompt the purchase of new batteries and a roll of film. That was early 2011 and resulted in the purchase of an M7 (well, I could only use one lens at a time on the M9!) and over the intervening period an MP ALC, IIIg and a Rolleicord Vb (chosen over a Rolleiflex as the 'cord is quite a bit lighter) have somehow made their appearance - addictive stuff, film  It is mainly the weight aspect (plus my wife's likely sense of humour failure) that deters me from trying out something like a Fuji GW690...

Maybe a Super Ikonta 6X6 folder for your pocket...

Well, I already have a 6x6 (the Rolleicord Vb) - I'm tempted to go larger, hence the thoughts of GW690. Maybe sanity will prevail and such thoughts be ignored!

I just found about 60 hits on 'bay for those items.

Speaking for only for myself, I have a few Nikons from the mechanical age that I will probably give away to motivated students. It seems unlikely that the demand will continue because our university shut down its darkroom. The department Chairperson is just unfathomable.

So sad....
