leicaphotographer Posted November 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello. I have a doubt. My camera is the M9-P and MP, I have a canon 580 EXII flah and need to mount a wireless trigger. That trigger you use? You must cover some trigger pin? Greetings and thanks for your kind attention. Advertisement Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Hi leicaphotographer, Take a look here M9-P, MP, and flash 580 EXII. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
CaptZoom Posted November 11, 2013 Share #2 Posted November 11, 2013 Do you already have some triggers or will you be purchasing them? To my knowledge, there are no triggers that are TTL compatible, so you'll need the flash in manual mode. As such, all you need is a basic trigger and receiver that will transmit the signal reliably. There are many options, Pocket Wizards being quite popular. I hear good things about the Phottix Odins. If in doubt, you can purchase a hot shoe adapter to gain a PC sync port and use the PC sync terminal to connect the flash trigger.
leicaphotographer Posted November 11, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted November 11, 2013 I have a flash canon 5890 EXII. I have no triggers, and do not seek TTL, only manual. Regards.
Furia Posted November 12, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 12, 2013 I use this one with the exactly same flash as yours: Amazon.com: FlashWave3 Wireless Radio Slave Hot Shoe Remote Wireless Flash Trigger System - Transmitter and Receiver Set: Camera & Photo Small, lightweight and inexpensive. Works well but you lose half stop sync — but I guess all others do the same.
CaptZoom Posted November 13, 2013 Share #5 Posted November 13, 2013 Works well but you lose half stop sync — but I guess all others do the same. Do you mean you lose A) half stop (interim shutter speeds) syncs, or half a stop worth sync speed, ie the sync speed is lowered? I can tell you the latter is NOT the case with all triggers. The former I can not comment on as I haven't paid attention to it.

Sorry, both my english and my technical knowledge is so so. I have to slow down the shutter speed to 1/125 instead the default 1/180 in my M9, otherwise one courtain (black band) will be visible on the picture. Nice to know this is not the case with all triggers but I guess this is the price I paid for something cheaper. Not a problem to me but might be to others mainly if using the MP I presume…

It's good to have such info in the knowledge pool. I use Paul C Buff's (PCB) Einsteins with the PCB Einstein CyberSync Transceiver in the Einstein and the PCB Cyber Commander on the M9. The whole system syncs at the M9's maximum/fastest flash sync speed 1/180. I have used Canon EX 4xx (don't remember the exact number) series and Canon EX 580 EX II with PCB Cyber Sync Receivers hooked up to the Canon flashes and recall using the max sync speed without problems. This was back in Dec 2009 or Jan 2010 and my memory is a bit fuzzy. But as best as I can recall, the M9 synced in at 1/180. PCB's triggers and receivers can be foundhere; though if I weren't using PCB strobes, I would look into other (more universal) options such as those from PocketWizards and Phottix or other companies.
