The Grip itself comes with a Manual as thick as a brick. There is no useful information there.

Err ... yes. The grip's manual is—pathetic. Look into the camera's manual. However the GPS is working just fine. Maybe your copy is defective?

My iPhone stays locked on even in my pocket. Even when a map app is launched for the first time, it locks within 5 seconds.

Yes, and wireless (bluetooth/WiFi) support in the camera would enable access to that location info and other capabilities of your iPhone (or other smartphone), such as wireless tethered shooting.

Heresy to some, i'm sure. From my perspective, just an inexpensive way of making the camera a better tool for its job.

I have never been witness to so many negative, disappointed customers as we find here on this M240 section of the forum.

The body needs something else it cramps your fingers, my M6 has a neat grip, and I never wanted for more.

This half-baked product and associated half-baked add-ons is turning more and more users towards the dark side; criticising Leica, potentially moving to Sony / Canon/ a.n.other manufacturer.

What I love is the images which is partly down to the glass.

What I love is the smaller body and the range finder way of taking pictures.

Give me a rangefinder that will take Leica lenses and I will jump ship today.

Such a shame - this camera could have been a spectacular purchase, instead it's anything but.

Same stuff when the M9 was released, or the M8...

Scroll back in the forum, you'll see ;) just no gps to complain about with the m8/9

Half baked add-ons I'll give you, but the camera is phenomenal!

It seems to me that there are 2 type of Leica owners on this forum

In the first place there are those who purchase the camera for its quality great optics simplicity and the core reason why it was produced in the first place .... To take those wonderfull lenses get your but out there and capture the world around you in still life

The second group of yo yo 's are those who purchase it to pose with it say they own a Leica M and then and bitch and complain that their poser I phones have more functional features then the 8000 dollar camera that they are posing with.

Who gives a shit about GPS. What the hell does GPS do for photography. Like really

Are you that inept that you can remember where you took a picture that you need GPS.

What the heck is this world coming to ?

Shut up sell the the thing go buy an f ing Sony and leave this forum behind.

It's frankly insulting to presuppose that people who buy the multifunction grip are poseurs. The fair presupposition would be to assume that they buy the multifunction grip to use some or all of its multifunctions (for example flash in conjunction with an EVF2 if they are seeking an "R solution") or even the GPS feature. What they have a right to expect is that if they are paying for a feature, then it works. You may be a minimalist M photographer. With a multifunction extendable system (which the M240 is) you have no right to presume that everyone else is the same.

Watch out with that attitude. I am sure many of us do not appreciate those comments since we are in neither "group". Plus, we should have every expectation that what we purchased works as advertised.

Well, when I go into Navajo territory for weeks on end, sleeping under the stars and often shooting in canyons and very remote locations, I cannot always remember where I took a certain shot. That is why the GPS grip will be useful to me as I want the GPS location in my EXIF data.

Maybe there are more than the 2 categories of posters on this website than you imagine.

Actually, Artin, there's at least one more type, and you can spot them since their vitriolic posts are sanctimonious bunk. Oh, wait, one more thing: they reduce technical discussion to ad homonym attack.

Hmmm... I must find the discipline not to feed the trolls.

My Lightroom 5 (latest version) doesn't recognize the camera.

Mine also didn't—at first attempt. Re-installing ("repairing") Lightroom solved the issue.

By the way, Lightroom 5.3RC has just arrived on Adobe Labs. But the M (Typ 240) gets recognised by Lightroom's tethering feature since version 5.0, so updating to the latest Release Candidate is not required.

Olaf,

If it has worked since version 5, then I have to assume that you have developed a tethering method pre-handgrip or have had a handgrip well before anyone else, and trust me, I have been speaking with the top of the chain.

The only other scenario is that you have been slowly upgrading LightRoom over the last week and testing the Handgrip with each iteration. Please do tell, as any NDAs should be out the door by now since it is slowly tickling in.

Wait, one more scenario, should we address you as Dr. Kaufmann? :D

jrp,

I have Leica grips for all my Ms but as far as gripping function, this is the least successful IMHO.

How do I explain? Past grips were almost circular so that you could curl your fingertips around (Good),

The grip function of this iteration is flat and doesn't even exit the body (so to speak) at a 90 degree angle. It is more like 100 degrees and since it is not round, you cannot curl your fingertips around, making it a bit more slippery for me. Not sure how the Non-multifunction grips perform.

Huh!? What's your problem?

Relax Ollie,

So you haven't actually tested, you simply read the data off the Adobe site… Inference suggested you had actually used it in a series of iterations of LightRoom (read your post). For example, according to the Leica site, mine and everyones GPS mode should work. It simply doesn't as of yet.

Unfortunately, yesterday I assumed my tethering cable (USB to mini_USB was at my Studio). Having searched here I remembered it is in my Laptop Bag with my Laptop (seemed like a good idea at the time).

And the damn things are hard to find with any decent length. Most Camera stores don't seem to carry them in SF as I walked into 3, all suggested I try Best Buy or Office Depot. Anyway, will have to test when I get home.

When I do, I will NOT report here as I am bloody sick of the argumentative attitude of you and others. Did you see the smileys ion my text ollie (the face that is opposite of yours when you look in a mirror)? Also, if it doesn't work I will call or write an email to the LEAD Developer of LR who has become an acquaintance and typically gets back to me within a day even when in China. He knows me as the Leica Test Subject.

Again, if WE are able to work it out ollie, I will NOT report back here.

Let's chill, brother. Your contributions are appreciated. Let the forum know what you learn. We all share. We get insulted sometimes. But in the end we're all ahead for the sharing.

I don't want any of my M's to act like anything except what it was billed to do and do it flawlessly. It does not yet with R lenses and EVF and as of yesterday a person involved with resolving this unfortunate matter has NO fix for this problem.

My GPS worked on the third shot I took with it and around maybe 5-6 minutes from turing camera on.
