FYI, universal L bracket that fits "both ways" on the bottom of M with out machine shop modifications....

Sunwayfoto DPL-03 Universal L-Bracket Quick-Release Plate [sUNWAYFOTO DPL-03] - $89.00 : ProPhotographyGear.COM!

And it's less $$ than RRS (quality is top as I have the same Brand L bracket for my D800)....

Just to be clear the RRS bracket easily fits directly on the M base too, but my example here is to mount it on the M grip and leave it on the M grip without having to remove it for battery and SD card change.

I will check the bracket you reference to see if it must be removed for battery and SD card removal.

What is the Arca-Swiss Cube? The MC-L has a normal QR plate that is universal from what I know. Perhaps best to ask RRS or look on their website.

The Arca Cube is a terrific, compact (for what it is), and rather spendy geared head. Its clamp works fine with the RRS plates.

I received the non multi-function Leica M Grip today. It is a great match for the camera. It adds a couple of millimeters to the base height and does not add much in weight. It definitely enhances the grip, but ends with the top of the leather. It is a little awkward to get fingers on the grip and on the shutter release and over the strap lug. However, I am sure I will get used to it. It does make up for the loss of the Thumbs Up I was used to on the M-9 and gives you something more substantial to hang onto. It is a good addition for me.

My post #32 above shows the M grip next to the RRS grip and illustrates the difference in the grip design. I now prefer the Leica grip over the RRS grip. but then on the Leica grip if you use QR plates one must attach an L bracket.

That said after walking around many hours with camera and grip, I am finding the Leica grip is less fatiguing for my hand.

Grip arrived today. Attached it to the M, walked to the front yard which is pretty open in all directions and got a GPS lock within 2 minutes. That's comparable to my cellphone's GPS and handheld Sony GPS tracker unit I use. RF conditions were good - clear skies, cool temperatures.

My dealer called this morning to let me know my grip was in, but to my disappointment it turned out not to be the MF Grip. So anyone looking for a regular grip can contact Paul's Photo in Torrance, CA. Ask for Mark Comon. They have a regular grip that no one has placed dibs on yet. They also have two black M240s.

Got the grip. Great for handholding stability, especially when used in conjunction with the Thumbs-Up grip.

TO my question. Has anyone any info on how to get tethering to work with LR5. Unless I'm missing something, I can't find any info anywhere, including Leica's literature or web site. Following LR's tutorials doesn't work. Do I need Image Shuttle Software? Can't find any info on that either, including any download links. Very frustrating. My Canon cameras tether without issue; more frustrating.

No, you don't. Strange how many people are having problems with tethered shooting using Lightroom. I also had. In my case, re-installing ("repairing") Lightroom 5.2 solved the issue.

Connect the Multifunction Grip's USB port to your computer, launch Lightroom 5.0 or higher, and select "File > Tethered Capture > Start Tethered Capture ...". That's it.

Have you made sure your camera is set to PTP, and not Mass Storage in the menu?

Also have you, or are you able to try Aperture 3? That works super flawlessly (albeit slowly) with the M9. You just find tether in the menu bar and follow the simple prompts.

OR, if you are on a mac use the Image Capture app. It's a native OSX App. It will just import the pictures as you take them and then you can set up a hot folder in Capture One or Auto Import on Lightroom.

At least it can get you up and running and give you time to work out something more simple with Lightroom or whatever.

Hello to everyone that attempted solutions for my tether issue.

-I reinstalled LR5

-USB is set properly

-Still will not tether either to my MacBook Pro or iMac both running Snow Leopard, not Mavericks. Next week I am taking delivery of a new MBPro Retina running Mavericks, but that'll be a different problem given all of the concerns/complaints I've heard with Mavericks compatibility with both LR and C1.

-I assume there's nothing wrong with the MFGrip. Didn't test the GPS, because I don't care about GPS, but I did test the PC-trigger socket and it works fine.

-I will try to experiment with image capture. Don't really want to mess with Aperture. My primary workflow since it's introduction eons ago has been Lightroom and I use C1Pro from time to time because is usually works much better than LR for tethering, ironically :( Of course as of this writing C1Pro does not tether directly with the M.

Strange.

Here are some "usual suspects" for tethering trouble shooting to try although if you've tethered before i'm sure you've already tried!

Does the camera connect at all, i.e. mount in finder and is there any standard sort of option in Lightroom to import when you plug it in? If you can establish you have a connection then it will help work it out.

have you tried another cable? (these things are useless at the best of times) another usb port on your computer? another computer just to see if it mounts?

Could be that that your grip port is no functioning too.

A GPS is handy when you are moving around outside taking photographs.

Tethered shooting is good when you are in a studio.

Extra lighting connectivity is good when you are in a studio or on location.

A GPS is redundant when you are in a studio or on location - you know where you are.

The multi function handgrip isn't weather proof.

Have I misunderstood something or is this a half pointless product?

Oh and this is my first post; hello everybody. 4 month (3 now) waiting list for my M.

Only pointless if you don't need some of it's features. 80% of my shooting income is derived from using the M and less the M9. Having tethering and the simple addition of a PC-flash-trigger socket will easily up my Leica-usage percentage to over 90%. My Canon's will be relegated to long telephoto situations and as backups. The lenses of the M system aren't water resistant or gasketed, so having a splash resistant M to me, is pointless.
