Jeff S Posted November 3, 2013 Share #41 Posted November 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do people really want a huge “10” added to the obtrusive “M” on the front? See post #33. The issue would have remained the same even if the number only appeared on the hot shoe. Two different issues: numbering scheme and product design. Leica didn't emblazon the MM with the word 'Monochrom' across the front, or even the letters MM. And even if Leica did inartistically put 'M10' on the front, they probably would have removed it in a later iteration for an extra $1000, and just added a 'P' to the designation. Advertisement Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Hi Jeff S, Take a look here Leica M10 vs Leica M240. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted November 3, 2013 Share #42 Posted November 3, 2013 And you care enough to state that the real M10 is the M (typ 240), when in the same post you say (in line with Leica's marketing strategy) that there is no M10. Conceptually, ‘M10’ was used to refer to the model to replace the M9 in Leica’s portfolio. This camera quite obviously exists, only its official name isn’t ‘M10’ but ‘M’ (or ‘M (Typ 240)’ if there might be some ambiguity). But while in this sense the M10 exists (so if you are re-reading some posts from 2011 or early 2012 where someone was wondering what the M10 would be like, you could now answer those questions based on the spec sheet for the M (Typ 240)), there is no camera designated ‘M10’ in Leica’s portfolio, so in that sense it doesn’t exist. Theo-cantor- Posted November 3, 2013 Share #44 Posted November 3, 2013 The next M will be a type 360 with a 36Mp sensor with two Raw modes. Hopefully with 24Mp RAW to speed up normal shooting. This is the problem my D800 has: it only shoots in 36 MP RAW. It slows me down doing post-production. Cheerz Theo M3-M8-M9-M user (also D800..sorry)
leica lux Posted November 3, 2013 Share #45 Posted November 3, 2013 Just wait for the M.P - no dot - no "M" - just a nice signature to show how special you are (how different is that from the red dot anyway ? ) just 1-2k more expensive than the "usual" model for the poor guys. Isn't it great, I need one
bephoto Posted November 4, 2013 Share #46 Posted November 4, 2013 Before or after your use of recent FW update, custom profile (e.g., using ColorChecker Passport) and/or WB card, PP edits (many options, e.g., luminance, saturation, color channel adjustments, contrast, etc...with easy pre-sets, as desired), different papers, different lighting conditions, etc? One can easily create dramatically different looks from the same pic, using the M or any digital camera. Especially changes to characteristics such as "over coloured and bright.' Workflow. Jeff I can't agree more, first shot I did with M in studio with Profoto Pro-8a (color fidelity at its best) I realized the colors are kinda OFF on skin tones then I updated the firmware and all my problems went away BUT I had to make custom profiles for other different light sources from KinoFlo to LED and Tungsten. my conclusion: 1. Leica M under daylight/flash works superb when it comes to color rendition 2. Leica M sucks really bad when it comes to other light sources specially tungsten 3. with a $99 color checker passport and once in a lifetime calibration of profiles it becomes flawless. This is were kodak sensors win, no matter if i use hasselblad CFV-50, M8 or M9 i don't even bother with color because I know its perfect. but i would definitely sacrifice 1 hour of my life making custom profiles for such a superb camera like M which is ahead in any other aspect from M8 and M9. I sold all my previous digital Ms BTW.
