Irregular shutter-times/values

Hi!

A little less than a year ago, I bought a very mint M8.2, and I have been very happy with this new experience to me. I have used (and still use..) Canon equipment for 25 years, almost everthing from 14 - 500mm lenses and numerous bodies, including varies 1D bodies. It has been very liberating to "travelling light" with Leica, and the quality of the files are something special.

The reason for posting though is that my beloved M8.2 is starting to act strange...

I am always shooting RAW + jpegs in B&W (to see B&W in the display..), and

a) If I fill up the buffer, some of the files will show up in colours, even though the profile is B&W....

B) and more worrying, this weekend I started to get shutter-times like 1/501s, 1/251s, 1/84s, 1/42s (the camera shows the correct values though... 1/250, 1/500s etc.)

The camera is set to A (I like to just choose the Aperture Value, let the camera choose speed and just check the histogram for exposure)

I am worried that the shutter is starting to fail... :-(

The body has only taken approx 5000 clicks... Firmware 2.004

Anybody have experienced something similar, or any suggestions about what to check?

Thanks!

Best regards,

Rune, Norway

If the shutter would have failed and the shutter speeds were truly off, the camera would be none the wiser; this wouldn’t be reflected in the EXIF data. In the EXIF data there are two fields for storing the shutter speed, ExposureTime and ShutterSpeedValue. The latter is stored as an APEX value and is usually slightly off while the ExposureTime field has the nominal and expected value. There is nothing to be concerned about.
