Jeff S Posted November 13, 2013 Share #61 Posted November 13, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Long time b/w film users don't need a camera to make them think and "see" in b/w if that's their goal. Learning how to see; that's what photography is all about, not the camera choice. Some need the crutch. Jeff
Advertisement Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Hi Jeff S, Take a look here Probably old but I need to ask, Leica M vs Leica MM. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tmldds Posted November 13, 2013 Share #62 Posted November 13, 2013 .... The COMPELLING reason is that you have to think in Black and White when you take a photo .... not lots of random colour ones with the odd one that you convert. You quickly learn to think purely in terms of light, shadow and tone .... so composition and framing tend to be different. It's what goes on in your eye and brain when you use an MM that is the most important factor.... not the camera itself:p +1. I still use my M9, but the MM is special. Perhaps, my affinity for B+W comes from my days of charcoal pencil and lithograph making during my college years.
Guido Posted November 13, 2013 Share #63 Posted November 13, 2013 It's what goes on in your eye and brain when you use an MM that is the most important factor.... not the camera itself:p If it's indeed the eye and brain, and not the camera itself, how about 1) taking an M9 (preferably black); 2) setting it to RAW+JPEG mode and B&W picture style so that all photos are displayed in b&w on the LCD; 3) importing the files into Lightroom with a B&W preset specified during the import dialog. How would this workflow mentally be different from shooting with an MM?
BrendanD Posted November 13, 2013 Share #64 Posted November 13, 2013 Not at all, but the images would be less detailed and have less tonal depth..
