But the focus assist is (most of the time anyway) not responding on either manual (preferred) or auto settings. Anyone have any ideas how to rectify this or experienced a similar problem? Thanks for any comments Ronnie i had also this problem, sometimes it work sometimes not ! i will try to install the new software , also i hope they fixed the problem of focus peaking, really poor in my opinion (i need a magnifier lens to detect the red lines Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dikaiosune01 Posted October 22, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 22, 2013 The focus peaking is only really usable in very high contrast areas - which sometimes is effected by the glass used. I personally have no experience with a notilux, but other's will definitely chime in. I have an early 50mm elmar, which is an extremely low contrast lens. During my testing, i have come to the following conclusions. I have to be extremely selective in the areas i use live view focus with it. In most average situtations, i did not have enough contrast in the scene for the peaking to be noticable. This is also effected by the aperture you are using. Luckily for me, I prefer the rangefinder 99.9% of the time. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
JDP Posted October 22, 2013 Share #5 Posted October 22, 2013 I've not suffered with the LV functions not working, but have noticed that in lower contrast situations using LV with 5x magnification is more effective, with little or no red lines showing when used in 10x magnification. Give it a try. I've also found that when I use LV I seem to be searching for the red lines rather than looking at if the picture is sharp or not. Probably just me, but I've found that if I ignore the red lines (if any) and just look for the focus popping then shoot, the result are pretty good even in poor light. Hope this helps. Thanks for all replies. I was referring to focus aid (ie magnification) which is really useful @f0.95, not focus peaking (which is pretty useless IMO). I went into Leica Tokyo today and they very kindly checked the camera on the spot but found nothing wrong. So either it has cleared or is an intermittent fault. As to coding, the contacts are clean and I do have the latest firmware. That apart the M is proving brilliant in intensive use and so much more versatile than the M9. When "Focus Aid" is engaged at 1x focus peaking is enabled, even though the FOV remains the same. The display will show a thumb wheel graphic and the zoom level in the upper right corner. I believe the OPs problem is with "Focus Aid - Automatic" where the Live View display will automatically zoom in once the focus ring is turned.
