lawman Posted October 12, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it possible that the new firmware could contain the code needed to upgrade to the VF-4 viewfinder, but Leica is not mentioning it because there are still lots of Leica branded VF-2's to sell off?? If someone has an Olympus VF-4 it would be interesting to see if it worked on the M. Just wondering as I am deciding if I should keep waiting in hopes of VF-4 compatibility, or should I just bite the bullet now and buy the VF-2?? Advertisement Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Hi lawman, Take a look here Anything Hiding in New FIrmware??. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
StephenPatterson Posted October 12, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 12, 2013 I think the chance of this is - Zero. If there is code written to support a future Leica version of the VF-4 it is in Solms and not in 2.0.0.
thighslapper Posted October 12, 2013 Share #3 Posted October 12, 2013 As they have had enough trouble getting the current version to work consistently they would be mad to try. The main black-out issue seems to be generated by heat and interaction with the temperature cut out mechanism in the electronics ..... a more pixel dense display is going to consume more juice in processing power and would almost certainly make the problem worse..... I would not be at all surprised if Leica eventually announces no plans to support it with this version of the camera ....
viramati Posted October 12, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 12, 2013 Buy a used Olympus equivalent VF-2 finder on ebay I got mine for less than £100 a mere nothing when compared to the cost of the M!!!
Dannybuoy Posted October 12, 2013 Share #5 Posted October 12, 2013 The VF-2 is a cracking little bargain that can be found on eBay. Love mine and love that it only cost me £115. I may be in a minority here but I now feel the M is a much more complete camera with LV. Love it
AlanJW Posted October 12, 2013 Share #6 Posted October 12, 2013 I have a VF4 fo my Olumpus. It will not work on the M(240) under the new firmware. I wish Leica would come out with a VF4 version of their own and update the firmware for it, but it is not in the firmware now.

StephenPatterson Posted October 12, 2013 Share #8 Posted October 12, 2013 Buy the silver (the Olympus name is very faint), then get some of those black rub off letters at the Office Supply store and presto chango it's a Leica, or rather...
