M240 black band across every image

I have just received my new M240 and every image has a black band at the top of each image and down the left hand side of a vertical taken shot. The band is about 5% of the image.

I have reformatted the card, tried another card, changed the lens, checked the settings and I am now stuck. I am a recent convert to digital, I have just sold my M9 after a year with no problems and I have recently bought a MM, apart from a dirty sensor again no problems.

I would be most grateful if any one knows what might be the cause. I will be contacting my dealer after the weekend.

Try downloading from a different reader or to a different computer. Also try directly from camera USB if there is one.

change reader to computer chord.

Try a brand new card formatted in the camera

If the band is on camera screen, it is most likely a camera fault.

After that, return.

Hi Stig

I have just downloaded the images into LR and you are quite correct the band goes when they are imported. I have not seen this before with my M9 or MM when using LR.

I am very grateful for your kind advice, I had the awful thought of having to send my M back after waiting so long for it!

Being larger files, they might take a few seconds longer to render in LR, depending on the speed of your computer processor.

I found it disturbing also at first until downloaded into LR where they finally vanish. Bit of a strange setup if I do say so.

When importing to LR, us the "Copy as DNG" instead of "Copy" and you will find that there are no black lines that finally vanish in LR. Copy as DNG will substantially speed up previews and will increase the Develop module's speed dramatically.

Yes,

I had two bands that ran vertically across the right hand side of my images. The only time this occured was when I used ISO 640, any other sensitivity rating was just fine. Sent the camera back to Solms and they "re-mapped" the sensor. It came back without the bands; however, it had some other bugs and I sent that one back for a new one. Customer support is friendly, call them, they'll send you a packing slip so you can send it in. It will be about 3 weeks.
