jip Posted September 25, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted September 25, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Â I've noticed that I have to check the date and time on the DMR daily since it is usually off for some reason, usually some hours short of the real time! Â Is this normal, I'm having this feeling it happens when I store the DMR without a battery (when charging for example) it isn't such a big problem but it is annoying when importing into Lightroom. Â Regards!
Advertisement Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Hi jip, Take a look here Leica DMR not remembering the date/time. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wildlightphoto Posted September 25, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted September 25, 2013 I suspect that the internal battery that keeps date/time when the main battery is exchanged is no longer holding a charge. As far as I know replacing this battery is still available from Leica (mine was done earlier this year).
jip Posted September 25, 2013 Author Share #3 Â Posted September 25, 2013 I see, that's what I thought, with most Dslr's this is self replaceable, I suspect with the DMR it is not?
sc_rufctr Posted September 25, 2013 Share #4  Posted September 25, 2013 Not by a "normal" user but with a few simple tools and instructions it could be done by an amateur.  The problem is the learning curve and do we even know what part of the DMR holds the memory battery? Is it the hand-grip/motor drive section or the digital back? I would guess it is the digital back section because that's separated when disassembled from the camera for storage. So the time/date would be immediately wiped if the battery was in the hand-grip/motor drive section. (make sense)  The battery would be available because it's probably a button battery like on the mother board of a PC or Laptop.  So then you have to disassemble the digital back and replace the battery. Not really hard but there is very little room for error. I doubt it would be soldered instead held in place with a socket and clip.  The ribbon cables look delicate. robsteve Posted September 27, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted September 27, 2013 If you have been continually storing the DMR without a battery in it, it may just not had a chance to charge the internal battery. Even when the DMR was new and fresh from the factory some of us had this problem, but it went away with a bit of use. Â The key is to store it with a battery in it. If you have only one battery, and only put it in when shooting, you may not be giving the on board battery a chance to charge.
