Jan W. Tromp Posted September 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Although my Leica M Monochrom is my best camera ever, I miss the possibility of using a zoom lens (35-70). Now I have to crop the negative (DNG) for that. The new M camera has Live View and the possibility to use the Olympus EVF2. Together with the adapter R-lenses can be used and there are at least two fine 35-70 R-lenses being sold at eBay etc. As I'm not a technician I like to ask you whether its possible for Leica to use a firmware update to make it possible using the EFV on a M Monochrom? If so, are they planning to do that? As the Monochrom is the only b/w camera I know, its not possible (even if I could afford) to buy a second one:-) Thx, Jan Tromp

01af Posted September 18, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2013 [is it] possible for Leica to use a firmware update to make it possible using the EVF on a M Monochrom? No, this is not possible.
Chuck Albertson Posted September 18, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 18, 2013 Not everything can be solved by software. Before a firmware update, the Monochrom would need a hardware update so there is some place to plug in an EVF. They don't run through the hot shoe. Guest WPalank Posted September 18, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2013 Not possible in the current model. Patience is a virtue...
pedaes Posted September 18, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2013 Its not been mentioned, but the fundamental difference, and directly related to your question, is that the Monochrome has a CCD sensor and the M a CMOS sensor. Liveview is not possible with CCD sensors.
