ginster6 Posted September 17, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) It was my baby sis wedding over the weekend. and my first real outing with the M240. I was really worry since I sold all my Canon 5dmk3 gear already. but again I am not the paid guy there. there was 3 other paid person. I basically took all my remaining gear I have . OMD ( with 3 prime , 2.8 zoom), RX1, RX100 with me. just incase the Leica is not working out for me. I also order a new Lecia SF54 flashgun last week. The 2 len I had for the M240 were 50+35 lux. 2 battery. Started at 8:30 morning. setting up flash. ( I was not too happy the nite before at rehearsal. the SF54 was not working out. TTL did not really work the way I want to. I took my uncle SB900. and it came out better than the SF54.) After reading Sean Reid review and using the SF54. I start to try on manual mode 1/8 power at iso640. too dark... started pushing up to iso1600. and bingo it nail the spot. Then I set to F8 to try zone focusing. set at about 8foot. wow.. it was fast . I think even faster than the 3 pro's .. I then started to use the f-stop to control the amount of light it is doing. I left the shutter speed at 125 thought out the day. At the evening I change the SF54 to 1/4 power and left the setup the same between f5.6-f8. zone focusing. End of the day 11:30pm. I have shot about 750 photo (1 SD card at 64gb class 10). spare M battery has not been used 35% left. SF54 battery change at 10:00. using only regular off the shelf AA battery. 90% using 35 lux. after uploaded. about 10% not focus right. and 30% over/under expose. but only 100-150 shot that I would approve. all the rest were either stupid shot or useless. For all my other camera. that I brought along. RX100 was in my pocket as I walk my mom down the aisle. and RX1 when 1 of the pro's want to try out the M240. As it was my Sister wedding, she was the highlight of the day. I think I had more than 30 people come up to me asking if it was the "NEW" M240. they start taking instagram of themselves hold the leica to their face. . The best part. One of the guest , which is the groom's uncle. came up and hand me his card. "Chinatown Photography Society" Board of Trustee, President. And ask me to join. He has a M7+M8. but hardly use it. He was using a NEX-7 with 35 Cron. Was teaching me how to use my Leica better. End of the Day.. I Luv the M240. I guess it is time to sell RX1. Dannybuoy Posted September 17, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 17, 2013 Sounds like a perfect time to get to grips with a new body and shoot as you would on a paid job but not have the responsibility of delivering the results to the bride. Experimenting on paid jobs is tricky as its so easy to totally screw up and miss important shots. I've sold all my canon gear now (last lenses went this weekend) so now I'm looking to line up some weddings next year armed with only the M. I think you have shown that that is a very achievable thing. I'm confident I'll get more quality over quantity shooting only With the M. Do you have any examples to see? I've not put a flash on mine yet.

wda Posted September 18, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2013 It was my baby sis wedding over the weekend. and my first real outing with the M240.... End of the Day.. I Luv the M240. I guess it is time to sell RX1. Although it was a private event, from your title I was half-expecting to see a sample of your coverage. But your feedback was interesting. Next time, if it is less direct family, try working with available light. Some pros do that. If you can cope with the conditions, it frees you from all the worries about getting the flash and exposure right. I always prefer the simpler approach and simply love the natural effect you get with available light, the domain best tackled with a Leica and fast lens. Dannybuoy Posted September 18, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2013 I've shot a few weddings with just the M9. If you are interested in seeing some photos, please send me a PM. Thanks. I've shot a fair few weddings with an M9 myself (can be seen on my commercial link below). I'm interested in seeing some M240 with flash photos. I usually shoot available light but I'm keen to see how the M performs at a wedding with a strobe. Cheers
