hulbert Posted September 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am renting a Leica M Monochrom. I want to shoot it teathered for a project I am unable to get LR 5 working. Are there other options? Am I doing something wrong? I may have the settings wrong. File setting PTP not mass storage, my MacBook Pro (2013) sees the camera as it will import images. Guest WPalank Posted September 13, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 13, 2013 I hope I am correct. Since Leica does not make a camera software, one must wait for the LR Boys to create Tethering Profiles for each specific Camera Model Leica makes. I know they haven't made it for the M as I had a conversation several months ago with one of the main developers in Adobe Land. With Cannon/Nikon it does not have to be camera specific because Cannon/Nikon make the Software, Nikon Capture for example What you do is set-up the software to create a Hot Folder for every-time an image is produced through tethering. You then point LR to that Folder so that every-time that folder changes (new image), it shows up in one of the Modules and therefore on screen. It maybe a different story if you have Capture One. And i could be completely wrong .
hulbert Posted September 14, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted September 14, 2013 Thank you! I used this method and it works well for what I need. Yours Hulbert
hoppyman Posted September 20, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 20, 2013 I am following this with interest as I would like to shoot with the M tethered. No idea when the grip to make the connection possible will be available to me though. According to Victoria Brampton (Lightroom Queen), the S2, S and M cameras are supported in the latest (LR5.2) Tethered camera support | Lightroom 5, 4,
Paul J Posted September 20, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 20, 2013 Hi Hulbert, the M9 works tethered with Aperture, have you tried that? I find it faster than Lightroom and you don't have to worry about Hot folders.
Karaminder Posted September 22, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 22, 2013 I shot tethered all the time with my M9. Shouldn't be any different with Monochrom. First setup an *empty* folder in the finder that you're going to pull your tethered images into. Point Lightroom to monitor said folder as a, "hot folder." Now here's the trick with tethering, you have the right mode on the camera in PTP mode selected in the camera menu. Half press the shutter now to make sure your camera is on and not sleeping. Plug the usb cable in to both camera and computer. Launch Image Capture (comes with all macs), go to File -> Take Picture... Make sure you select the same folder for the images to go into as the hot folder you selected before. After you've selected the folder, I usually tap the space bar and you should hear the camera's shutter fire. Give it a few seconds and the image should show up in LR. It's not instant fast, but it's not too bad. Enjoy!
Avatar Posted April 26, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 26, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am trying to set up shooting tethered with the Monochrom and can trigger via image capture..but am unclear in how to automatically get them in LR unless via import. I so far, am unable to shoot tethered in LR and getting "No camera detected" message. Any help appreciated!
NightSun Posted April 28, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 28, 2014 I suggest checking out M9Tether, which is a freeware tool. You can find it here: M9Tether Note, however, that it was designed for Leica M9 and there is no mention on the website whether it works or not with the Monochrom. But there is a good chance that it works as the used file transfer protocol should be just the same on the Monochrom and M9. I have tried it on a Macbook Air with my M9 and it works fine - RAMdisk mode is particularly useful as the image is downloaded directly from camera RAM to the computer without being written to the SD card, so it's pretty fast. M9Tether is a Windows-only software, so you would need VMWare and Windows 7 to be able to run it. (First I tried it with Parallels, but it did not work with that, M9 was not recognized under the virtual machine.)
