90mm Apo on the M8

The sucker can be a bear to focus wide open, but it's one very sharp lens. The 1.25 magnifier eyepiece really helps.

Personally I tend to use wider lenses (not just on the M8 but generally speaking), so I couldn't really break down what percentage of the time I use it.

I use it when I need it, and I'm glad I have it.

I have it - it's a great lens, even wide open.

How much you use it (in terms of %) would vary greatly depending on a) What you shoot, and B) how many other lenses you have.

If all you had was the 90, it would be 100%! If you have (say) a 28 & 90 it would be less than 100%. If you add the 75 as well, then things start to get fuzzy.... so it's all about what else you have and how they fit with what you shoot most :)

Thanks everyone, for all the replies and information.

My question about the percentage usage of the 90mm Apo is based on the understanding that 70-90 % of all photos are in the focal range of 28-90 mm .

For myself , if I have a longer focal length lens, say a 90 or 135 mm , I would probably use that lens for only 10% of my shots, as the 90mm Apo is a pricey lens , would it be better for me to buy some other piece of exotic glass, at the moment I only have the 50mm summicron and I am buying the 28 Asph.,I have a raft of r lenses that I am selling to purchase the m lenses.

Best Regards

Peter

I would have though that only you can decide this, because we all shoot different things, and want different things from different focal lengths. How I use the 90, and what i expect from it may be different from you.

As for what other glass it would be better to purchase, that's so hard too, because there are still 4 lenses on my wish list, and what order to buy them is always going to be a tough call, and usually based on my expectations of what I need to shoot next.

My most used lens is my 28, with the 35 and 50 being my least used. For other people, their most used lens may be the 35, and they never use a 28. It's all personal preference. Having a 28/50/90 combo sounds pretty good to me :)
