colonel Posted September 1, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted September 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Obscured by the myriad opinions on the X-Vario (which I of course think is great) are the great accessories available with it. I say that because Leica accessories in general are not great. The poor half case and others for the M8/9 for example. I have tried the following: 1. The half case is really excellent. A good fit, smart, not too bulky and decent protection. It has a cut out for the Leica logo - taste I guess 2. The system case is surprisingly very good (18746). The strap is unusually wide and very comfortable, and the combination is actually cheaper then the Hadley ones of the same with wide strap. 3. The hand strap is personal taste but very nice IMHO Â The only problem is no filter yet, although B+W 070M and Zeiss T* is available at 43mm. colonel Posted September 1, 2013 Author Share #2  Posted September 1, 2013 I forgot to say that IO would be interested in other cases that people have found useful with the x-vario  thanks
barjohn Posted September 2, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted September 2, 2013 I have the hand grip and it is really nice for making it easy to carry one handed. I have a Gariz writs/finger strap on the single lug. I have on order the finger loop but no sign of when Leica will be delivering. They are very late getting out accessories promised for mid August. Pixels By Paul Posted September 30, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted September 30, 2013 I would like a QR plate for my XV (which comes tomorrow!), but have not found anything but universals (which I already have). RRS does not seem to make one. Â Any advice?

If I did not get the hand grip for it, I would have gotten the half case as well, I think it looks nicer without the hand grip. On the X1 X2 I could do without, but this X handles so much nicer with it, maybe its the weight of it I guess.  By combination, you mean the combination bag by Billingham for Leica, right? Was getting the 18746 at first, but figure I'll just use the Combination Bag since it fits a M with an extra lens and the X Vario all together. Tried to use the Hadley Pro, but the Combination Bag is definitely a nicer fit, and lighter as well.

The fit is tight with the Leica half case but it's the smallest and most stylish/hard case I could find. Â Best rgds

barjohn Posted October 1, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted October 1, 2013 I want to second the opinion on the B+W 43mm Digital Nano-MRC. It is slim, German made and works great! Now, if they would just make the finger loops available.
brill64 Posted October 3, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted October 3, 2013 I think the finger loop is essential for a stable grip in conjunction with the grip for single handed shooting. I'm now tempted to conjure up my own loop using the existing handgrip thread. A 43mm filter, even with glass removed, is essential with the Lee filter RF75 system in place as the lens sinks in slightly when changing focal length. Without an e43, the zoom locks. Rgds Harold, if you have this Leica case, will the X Vario assembled with lens hood plus hand-grip fit conveniently inside it? If so, is there any space left for small extras like memory cards?
brill64 Posted November 12, 2013 Share #15 Â Posted November 12, 2013 I received a Large size finger loop today from Red Dot Cameras in London & can confirm that this minimal, very well made accessory attaches snugly to the accessory grip & adds much better one-handed handling to the X-Vario. In addition, the ball of my thumb no longer accidentally hits the flash mode menu button by accident.
barjohn Posted November 16, 2013 Share #16 Â Posted November 16, 2013 The finger loop is available at Adorama and Sammy's Cameras in USA now. I just received notice that Amazon will be shipping mine soon though they don''t show availability on their we site.
barjohn Posted November 20, 2013 Share #17 Â Posted November 20, 2013 Just received my finger loop today. I ordered large and if it weren't for the fact that I wear a class ring on my right hand, it would be too large. Even though my class ring is flat on top it can be tricky getting it through the finger loop. If I remove the ring, the loop is too big. One other poster indicated he wore a size 8 glove and was surprised to find he needed the small loop. I think I wear an 81/2 glove so I may need a medium but I'm not sure. Dealers don't have it in their stores so it is a matter of trial and error and ordering a different size and returning the one that is the wrong size. No guidance from Leica on sizing. It does do away with the need for a wrist strap and frees the lugs for a neck strap if you like those (I don't). Seems nicely made (but not $160 nice) and I notice that even though it can swivel after the screw is tight, it can still work lose the screw so checking once in awhile is probably a good idea so as to ensure you don't find your camera on the floor.
