hankg Posted April 12, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted April 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I seem to be in the minority here as I hate having too many lenses. I am now selling my 35/2 Biogon (to close in focal length to the 50) and will pick up a 28/2. The one thing I find attractive in the new Leica 50 and the 28/2 ASPH lenses is that among all the new ASPH line they seem to retain some of the softer transitions and OOF look of the last generation of lenses. After the 28/2 I might be tempted to compare the new 50 to my current pre-ASPH 50 (which I am very happy with, so no hurry). Â The 28 has less macro contrast as well compared to some other modern glass, which is to me a good thing on the M8. The Zeiss 35/2 was a fabulous performer, everything I like in a lens -old school bokeh, smooth transitions combined with sparkling sharpness edge to edge, but it had to much contrast. Tough to shoot on the M8 in harsh lighting. If it was B+W or color negative film it would be the ideal lens but I want as much dynamic range and data as possible in my digital captures. I think that is another plus for the Leica 28, all the advantages of the latest generation of ASPH without to much harshness.
Advertisement Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Hi hankg, Take a look here Anyone prefer the 28/2 cron over the 35/1.4 lux?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rosuna Posted April 12, 2007 Share #22  Posted April 12, 2007 Three i can see the framelines with or without glasses  I cannot see them comfortably. I like to see the framelines and some space surrounding them. Using glasses is difficult to me, but I have a big nose...  I agree with your other points Guy. In fact, this lens has some strange ability in separating tonalities, with a smooth out-of-perfect-focus areas and supersharp in focus areas. Beautiful. However, I preferred the alternative 35/75 set (very interesting too). Sadly, I am not rich.
carcam Posted April 12, 2007 Author Share #23 Â Posted April 12, 2007 I know the OP is looking for a answer here but to be real honest there is no real answer. Â I know what you mean. I wasn't so much looking for a definitive answer but reasons why one would prefer the 28 over the 35. There are so many good choices in lenses that it often makes it more difficult to chose than if there were only a few good ones to pick from. Interestingly, at the Leica workshop, the instructors and more experienced students faced the same challenge in picking their favorite 2 or 3 lenses.
