johnbuckley Posted September 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) We certainly love our M, and loved our M9, M8, and M7 before it. But as it dawned on us this week that we'd had our Monochrom now for a year, we reflected on how much we'd learned from using such a tool. The Monochrom has had a genuinely profound impact on how we view photography, and see the world. So we wrote a short essay on What We Learned Over One Year With The Leica Monochrom. We hope you like it, and especially hope that some who have been on the fence over whether a Monochrom is the right investment for them, might appreciate the impact it has had on at least one person who loves deeply saturated color images. Diehard monochrome photographers will laugh at this discovery of the joys of black and white photography. But perhaps those who, like me, had gone a long time without shooting black and white film will relate to what a profound influence the Monochrom imparts. Mixalis Posted September 1, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 1, 2013 Hi John, I left a comment on your site but I wanted to repeat that you have some stunning B&W images in the post. I am relatively new to the Monochrom (but not to Leica) and I am thoroughly impressed. I'm enjoying it immensely. Coincidentally, my M (which I have had since March) had to go back to Solms the week before I got the MM so I have not had the chance to compare the two side by side--something I am looking forward to. I have been posting some MM shots from the Greek island of Mykonos on my site but after seeing yours I feel I have a lot to learn. Mike
johnbuckley Posted September 1, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted September 1, 2013 Mike - thanks so much. I think I've learned more about photography in one year with the Monochrom than I did in the previous decade. It's counterintuitive that by being limited, as one is shooting only in black and white, you learn more. Or at least that that's the way this last year has unfolded for me. Thanks, cheers, and enjoy the MM, as I know you will.
Leopold Green Posted September 1, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 1, 2013 An excellent article!!! I'm only in my third month of the Monochrom but it is certainly the most fun I've had... Your Another Self Portrait review is spot-on as well

NikonJeff Posted September 1, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 1, 2013 Thank you for sharing the experience. I'm a firm believer in "Less is More" and in the case of the MM - it's refreshing to retrace your roots! Well done!
