Photoskeptic Posted April 11, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does Leica or anyone else make a hard case for the M8? I'm not referring to Luigi's. I want one just for traveling to keep the camera from harm. I once busted the LCD on a DSLR I carried rather loosely in a carry-on. I don't care for camera bags as they are too conspicuous. I've been using an Optech soft case, but don't feel it is optimal. Thanks for all replies.

albertknappmd Posted April 11, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 11, 2007 Luigi makes an excellent complete case for the M6 and 7 and i presume for the M8 as well... It is very sturdy.
Philinflash Posted April 12, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 12, 2007 Pelican in California makes a nice range of very secure cases (http://www.pelican.com). I bought a model 1200 from B&H for $33.25 and adapted it to accomodate the M8 plus the charger, a 35-mm lens, and a 75-mm lens, either one mounted or not. It is about the size of two bricks (or a small shoe box) and has a nice robust handle. If you have more kit, you will require a larger size, but there is a wide range available, right up to wheelied ones. The case come with a foam insert that is customizable to the contents by removing pre-cut 1/2-inch units of foam. Unfortunately, I do not regard the foam as sufficiently durable to leave it "as is," so I have lined the foam with sticky-backed felt fabric. When it closes, it is sealed inside with a 360-degree rubber o-ring. The manufacturer says it will float in salt water, although I don't get the same personal assurances. With the right kind of padlock, it can be locked. Philip Kozloff
Photoskeptic Posted April 13, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted April 13, 2007 Thanks for the reminder, Phil. I've used and own several Pelican cases, but have always used them for sensitive electronic equipment. Hmm - M8, mmm, oh yeah, it qualifies! Dopey me.
